Architects for the removal of Up/Down Stairs
« on: October 01, 2014, 08:38:45 pm »

We, the architects of the Northford Hillshire, protest the inclusion of UP/Down staircases in Dwarf Fortress. By reducing amount of stairways built you are significantly reducing design work, which steals food from the dinner table and right out of the mouths of the children of architects.

For Shame!. Remove Up/down Stairs! For better Forts! For the Children!

You can just choose not to use them when making your fort.....

But then we couldn't have large, simple central staircases (or single-tile staircases spanning over two Z-levels),  adding an unnecessarily tedious aspect to fortress design and complicating a number of procedurally generated structures.

When ladders get in, up-down stairs can have a name change and start to make sense. Your donkeys and llamas will still probably use them, though.
