The cultural people of Catan have always been martially inclined both on and off the field even before they joined together as a Republic. All citizens are required to serve in the armed forces for at least 5 years of their life starting between the ages of 16 and 21. This service doubles as practical education and the standing force of the military also serves as an industrial arm in times of peace, laying tracks or building fortifications that will be needed for when the enemies of Catan raise their weapons at the proud nation state.

The Republic is currently headed by Consul Felicity Nucelli and the Senate, a technocratic body made up of those who've passed their post-service academia and earned certification in one or more of the Catan Paths of War, Industry, Science, or Spirit. None of the senate wings may exceed 30% of the total body and each field requires mastery of the chosen path before eligible for nomination as a candidate for senator. Only those who've passed their mandatory services (military and academic) are able to vote in this process. While all wings of the senate are able to vote for the office of Consul, only a person who has passed at least two academic paths is eligible for the position and at least one of those must be in War. This is to represent the essence of the people and its cultural valorization of the military.

The official religion of Catan is following of the Landesgeist, or national spirit, though other religions that have not given the state trouble are tolerated. The Landesgeist has a secular and religious manifestation in the society, where natural philosophers prefer to think of it as an abstract notion of cultural unity the more faith-inclined believe there to be an actual intelligence and soul behind the nation itself. These faithful prefer to see themselves as the body of this mind and thus become an extension of its will so long as Catanians live upon its soil.

Yes, outnumbering is in (+1 per 3 armies more than your enemy, this goes up/down depending on amount of armies left in combat), and no, I will do without spreadsheets. In fact, I managed to work testgame with notepad and MSPaint, I guess I can do it now too
