Dye problems
« on: September 30, 2014, 05:23:45 pm »

I'm having trouble getting my dyer to dye cloth and thread. He's done it before, but now, the jobs are cancelled with "needs unrotten dye item." Is that a problem with the thread/cloth, or with the dye? Can you tell?

I've got plenty of cloth, and some thread, in my clothing stockpile, and none of it shows up as already dyed when I look at it. (Plus, my clothier recently stopped making clothes, because I've got the orders set to only use dyed cloth. So the cloth is there, and it's not already dyed.)

I've got plenty of dye in my food stockpile, too. None of it is forbidden, and neither of these stockpiles are set up to feed a particular workshop. I've got no burrows, either. The dyer's workshop is close to both stockpiles, and there's definitely no access problem.

Any ideas? I've run out of things to check.

Thanks.

Needs unrotten dye item means the dyer can't find the dimply dye bags. Check if your stockpile is set to give to a workshop and delete those links. Better yet create a new stockpile to only allow milled plants and enable only the various dyes and set it to 0 barrels allowed, as dwarfs hauling the dye bag barrels to pick up new bags will cause them to be temporarily be unavailable, too. Disable milled dyes on your other food stockpiles to get the bags to the new stockpile.

OK, thanks. I already checked the stockpile, and it's not set to give to a particular workshop. But the dye is in a barrel. There are many different dye bags in the barrel, too, so they might all be in the same barrel. I'll set up a separate stockpile, with no barrels, for dye only.

Thanks for the help!

Between threshing, milling, weaving, and dying, the barrels and bins thing causes me a lot of cancellation problems.  I turn off all cancellation announcements and use the manager to schedule all jobs in those fields, pardon the pun.  It saves the trouble of having to constantly re-order them at the workshop directly.
