That there are deep veins beneath their feet where a cochlea comparable to great Grammath resides, and that its proximal parts hear our every squeak, and the deeper distal depths listen for something more sinister still?"

That was probably just him, but it didn't hurt to ask.

Kyle gives the man a confused look.
"Could you say that again in layman's terms?"

"Does the immense idiot demiurge that is Nature not seem more... alive than an individual would expect in the confines of the great green of the back country? That it persists not in the abstract sense as the pycnogonid of near-infinite thinking legs or the hive of a quadrillion ants operated through a vicious cycle of death and renewal, but as a more real, unified, singular, frightening whole?"

Kyle thinks for a while before finally nodding.

"Is this High Druid you speak of related, do you think?"

Alicia and Duncan
"On the other side of the continent, if I can help it. You see, I'm working on a way to magically teleport the city and everyone and everything inside it far away from here. If it's not here, then Skaal can't very well attack us, can he? Problem is, it requires so much raw magical energy that it would either take more mages than we have, or the Archmage himself, and the old stubborn bastard refuses to help. Says it's dangerous to release that much energy at once. I'm trying to find a loophole that'll let us use less energy, but to lose energy is to lose control of our destination, and I would rather not end up sinking this place in the middle of the sea."

Kyle, Kat and Ethnon
You figure that Wizards are bookish types, so they'd probably be at the library, and since this is a Wizard town, the library is probably one of the biggest buildings in town. By chance, you find Duncan and Alicia in said building, the former of whom is talking to a tired looking woman in blue robes. She looks over to you and back to Duncan, saying, "Friends of yours?"

Alicia rose and padded over. She quietly murmured hello, the thick tome under her arm.

"It seems all we do these days is fletch arrows and repair broken equipment. We have plenty of arrows; it's no trouble."
The gnome comes out from the back with a full quiver of 40 arrows, and sharpening your sword gives you +1 to damage for your next 3 encounters.

Maruko bows to them briefly, before accepting the quiver gratefully, and turns to leave before stopping and turning back.
"My deepest thanks for your assistance...if you ever have need of my aid, once this battle is done, I am yours to command."

He bows again, deeply, to the woman, before leaving, not needing a response.

Now, how else to prepare for the battle...perhaps he could ask the captain if they had need of officers, or...perhaps messengers...there was little else he would be good for...the dwarf shook himself, dragging his mind from that line of thought. It was not fit for a warrior. After seeing to that, he would see to his armor, and consider getting a mount to aid him in battle...though, the samurai doubted there would be any suited to his size and experience.

But first, whoever was in charge of this siege...

Duncan looks over to Kat. "Can't say I know her."

"Well, if any of you know anything about magic, you could help me set up what we've got already. That'd free most of us up to help with the battle tonight. Although, hopefully, we'll be out of this place by morning."

Maruko
The one in charge of the siege on this end would be Captain Davora. He's currently in a tower on the wall, going over a map of Horizon with a handful of sergeants, pointing out weak areas that need to be defended, such as the waterways that enter and exit through large grates in the city's walls. He doesn't seem to notice you approach.

"I am not unknowing in magical things. I can help or be helpful. I would love to help however I can. I am Ethnon," Ethnon says. "I am friend to all things. Also helpful. What you need help with, I can help with. I know magical things."
