How/Why is he at Hunter Academy then?

And considering there seems to be electricity and the fashion trends seem in keeping with modern more than the times of cobblers who aren't Nike and PayLess...

Presumably, said cobblers specialize in bespoke shoes tailormade for rich families like Amber's, the Ua Scathach and so on. And to be fair, Indigo's a farmer's son and Maeve's a nomad, so I suppose Hunting ability isn't dependent on background and presumably Cordo did go to the equivalent of Signal Academy in Atlas.

As for the other explanation for cobblers, well, the story takes place in a fairly modernized equivalent of a fairy tale setting, what with the kingdoms, the fact that most characters in it are based on fairy tale, folklore and mythological characers and so on, so it's actually kinda logical to have a cobbler- these guys do figure in a lot of folklore, right?

...I have no idea who Amber is from Folklore/Fairy tales, then.

I meant more along the lines of 'what's his reason for being there?' Not ability, just why does he want to be there? Amber's there because she wasn't really given a choice in the matter, and being able to defend yourself as the owner/CEO of a huge corporation in a world where assassination is most definitely a thing is somewhat important(thus her tutorage by weaponsmasters and subsequent skill with weapons).

Same reason most students are, probably- they want to defend their country.

EDIT: Well, looking at Amber, I suppose she represents an amalgam of just about every plucky girl heroine in folklore, judging from her personality and her status as a somewhat naive heiress in a world where she's likely to be assassinated if she isn't careful, whether by the White Fang (who I assume is still a thing here) or other criminals.

Seems about right.

Though, by naive, it's mostly be comparison to successful (aka cutthroat, paranoid, ruthless, and scheming) corporate executives. Aka her family. :P

She was raised by nannies/tutors with rather more intact sets of ethics/morals.

Things will get funny if Indigo gets targetted for teasing. Much distraction from his duties will be had.

What? How hard is it to step out of the way of a very unareodynamic whip.

When it's about 11 meters long, he's not 11 meters away, and it's swinging at very high speeds due to the length, regardless of aerodynamics?(although yes, it wouldn't be very aerodynamic, but she's strong enough that it doesn't matter very much; few of the RWBY weapons are aerodynamic) Besides which, the...what's the word...blandness of his reaction, and the 'oh, I'll just amble over to the person swinging around around 30-40 pounds of metal, I can dodge anything they do without the slightest bit of effort', especially as concerning their respective weapon skills and semblances?

As well, auto-dodging is still god-moding, regardless. That's why the d% is rolled; if it's really low, then all damage is negated by 'armor' which is effectively dodging if their Semblance is about reaction times.

Says the person who's character hasn't taken a single hit the entire match aside from the one GM rolled round.
