"No maker? Then how? Strange, strange." Chaiket muttered to herself, poking at the twigs. She looked up at the others. "Maybe arising naturally. Possibly something strongly magical in the area making them. Have to have a source."

((Cut sapphire? Nice! Layla can set that in a pendant or amulet and make a magical item of some description for good money.))

Edit:Actual stuff:

Layla actually looks curious at the kobolds statement. "You watch us? Really? For what reason?" she says in a tone meant to convey curiosity that accusation.

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

"Now now, I'm sure they have a perfectly good reason. Surely we can find out what it is while we talk out our plans for peace?" Arsolf said, hoping to avoid any undue confrontation.

"Er, it was mostly - to pass the time before I got food." Nik-Nak lets out quickly, before agreeing with Arsolf. "Yes, yes, let's continue. We're almost there."

Nik-Nak starts off again, waiting for the group to follow before falling back into the rhythm of the walk.

Soon enough, she stops.

"Please wait here. I will be back hopefully soon." Nik-Nak says from her position just outside the bright torchlight, her red eyes giving off a dim glow. She turns around and disappears to the West.

You've been left in a sizeable clearing, lit well by the torch Arsolf is holding. The full moon is high in the sky. It sounds like you have a little time to yourselves here.

"So... Has anyone come up with an idea on how to provide both camps with food? We could do a refugee integration. Let a small portion of them join our village, start expanding our food growing capabilities, and over time integrate more and more."

"Simple option would be to drive kobolds off, or put better guard on food. Would sacrifice kobolds for village, but our village would survive intact. If they have wealth, could buy food. Stones from constructs, maybe. Druid could create food, if one could be found and persuaded to do so.

Hard part is this winter. Less traders, less available to stockpile. If contacted earlier, could have solved problem much easier."

You sit around talking about the issue for a little while, the torch burning brightly for you.

No one notices the vines around Drenza starting to move. Drenza doesn't even hear it.

Suddenly, they lash out, and slam into her! They start wrapping around her throat and torso, but she manages to slip out just before they start crushing her.

Layla backs up and summons a Celestial dog next to the vines!

Chaiket (stepped forward to 5 feet away, then) tossed an axe at the heart of the vines.

"Grab me if you can, vines!"

Chaiket steps up close to the vine, hucking one of her axes at the body of the vine. She makes contact as the axe buries itself into a thick limb. The vine hisses at the strike and recoils from Drenza.

Layla stays put, starting the concentration required to summon a celestial dog.

The vine, having been hurt, leaves Drenza and turns to Chaiket. It swings its main limb at her, but Chaiket is able to duck out of the way of the attack.

Get away, or get away and use crossbow? That would provoke an attack of opportunity.
