Journal of Ad Deathblossoms, Granite of the Year 120

Much has happened since I wrote last. Right away, I met with the lord, the exalted shield, and the holy fortress of the town. The three of them informed me that there was an insurrection happening in the town, which struck me as strange, because I had not seen anything on my way there besides monsters. They also informed me of a group of bandits to the east that were troubling the local villages. They asked me if I could take care of them, and if I did, I would be richly rewarded. I set off, knowing that if I took out the bandits, it could get me the support that I need to confront the elves in their lair.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

My travels to the camp went well, and I swiftly took care of the bandits. The lord had also mentioned a second camp, further to the east. I decided to take them out as well and truly prove my might. On the way there, I was ambushed by a goblin crossbowman. I blocked the first bolt with my shield and quickly finished them off in two strokes of my sword.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

When I arrived at the camp, it was obvious that the crossbowman had come from here. I was quickly set upon by a group of goblins. I handily dispatched them, and was set upon by another crossbowman. I blocked his first few bolts easily enough, then quickly cut of his hand. After that, it was a few quick strokes to finish him off. As I sit in the camp and write this, the crows have already arrived to pick their corpses clean.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The journey back was just as eventful. I was set upon by lions at one point, which was fortunate because I was running low on meat. However, as I was passing through a hamlet, looking for a place to stay the night, I was set upon by a vicious group of goblins!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They quickly surrounded me, and pressed closely against me, demanding I yield. None of the inhabitants of the hamlet were anywhere to be seen... I had to take this carefully. Backing up towards the houses, I got ready to sprint if set upon. One fired an arrow at me, but I was prepared and managed to dodge it. I slipped behind the house, and sprinted around with the large group on my tail. I made it around and killed the crossbowman. After that, I managed to slowly pick them off one by one. When I had killed three, the group scattered. I managed to catch up to two of them and strike them down, but one escaped. No matter, he'll tell my story. I truly am a god. Although, some of the bruises I sustained make me think armour may be a reasonable investment, even for a god.

...

After returning to the town, I purchased some armour and returned to my lord. He was very pleased with me. But when I explained my plan in full to him, he was appalled! He insisted that the peace since the war had brought cooperation and trade between the elves and our Confederacy. I could not believe this. My lord was an elvish traitor. Furious, I stormed out of there. At the time of writing this, I have decided to set forth anyways. My lord could obviously not be trusted. Thus, I have recruited a number of veterans from the taverns around the city. They know what is right, and what must be done.

...

On our travels to the south, very few noteworthy events happened. We met some wonderful people along the way. One house we stayed in had an elf slave that attended to our whims, which is where elves belong.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Apart from minor skirmishes, the travels were uneventful. It was not long before we reached an elvish settlement. Walking into the settlement, we came across two elves. The looked at us in fear, and told us that they were out for a walk. Quickly, I cut them down before they could call more of their folk. They live in the trees... They are like animals. And we killed them like animals.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We went through village after village, killing everyone. Men, women, children. Soldiers, doctors, herbalists. They all fell before our weapons. We were heroes, with one goal in mind: reach the main retreat at the very south, and wipe them out at their source. Those elvish bastards won't be troubling anyone else anymore. Finally, after days of killing, I came across the home tree. By this point, all my men had either died or deserted. I decided I would press on, damned be to the consequences. So, I climbed that home tree, and met the queen at the top. My sword clove her asunder, and brought an end to the tyranny of elves.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...

But that wasn't the end.

As I was leaving, I was continuously attacked by elves. They were displeased with my victories. They chased me, they beat me, they cut me.

I killed them.

I killed them all.

I bathed in their blood.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I drenched their marketplace with the blood of innocents. My lord will be proud of me now. Right? I have avenged my father. I have avenged our Confederacy. I am a hero. I am a hero. I am a hero. I am a hero.

...

I sat by the river for a few hours today.

I realized I was still covered in blood and dirt. And that I was crying.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Heroes don't cry.

...

I can hear footsteps in the trees. I think I'm lost in this forest. The elves are chasing me. i need to get out. i need to get out right now.

...

the eyes haunt me. i see the elves everywhere in this forest. i need to get out but i am lost. this journal keeps me sane. but i am a hero i dont have to worry about this. i am a hero. i am a hero.

...

Feeling better today. I finally made it out of the forest and back to the city. The journey home was harsh, but the good people of the Confederation helped me out along my way. I feel different though. I am not of them. I feel as if I am a walking shadow of death. I cannot think on that though. I am a hero, I saved our Confederacy from the elves. Tomorrow, I will greet my lord and be praised.

((Final update will come tomorrow or later today likely, at which point I'll zip up my save and PM Th4DwAfY1. I expected to die when I got attacked by those goblins, but I got lucky that the three scattered after I killed the first three. Even then, I still got beat up by the hammer, and got a spear lodged in me. I'm also surprised I didn't get killed by the elves. I got chased by 10 or so of them, and ran into the market where I got swarmed. By the end, there wasn't a part on my body that wasn't bruised, and my head and one arm was all cut up. I was figuring I'd die, and then just start a small fortress to finish off my turn, but I survived, so I decided to take this adventurer in a different direction. Hope you enjoyed.

Also, I added Deidei and Sheaim to the turn list. Cheers!))

Journal of Ad Deathblossoms. Year 120.

It happened again. I lost control. When I met with the lords of the town and told them of my victories, they were not pleased. They called me murderer and spat on me.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I couldn't help it...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I struck them down where they stood. The lord nearly escaped. I cut off his hand and he fled, but I managed to destroy him. That was the end of my life in the Confederacy. I had to leave. I would be hunted to the ends of our southern island. I have committed the worst possible crime, regicide. My god, why have you forsaken me. I was bringing justice to the elves. Why has this happened? In a fit of rage and sadness, I fled the town. My destination? Anywhere but here. I write this on a road to the west of the city. I don't know when I'll write again, I don't know if I'll write again.

((OOC note: I learned afterwards that the town had been taken over by criminals, and thus my "lord" was actually the lord of a town of criminals. So apparently murdering them all was actually a good deed for the Confederacy. It also explains the insurrection that was mentioned when I first got in town. I found this out via legends mode though, so IC, I have no idea about this, and I think I've done the worst possible crime.))

...

It's been a few days. Bathed the blood off of my body. Was attacked by some goblins, slaughtered them all. This is a curse on me, a curse of death. Everywhere I go, death follows. It's only a matter of time before death catches up with me.

...

Found a nice town on the coast. They hid from me, I do not blame them. I think I will head for the east now. I must leave this southern island, and strike out for the northern continent. There my deeds may be forgotten, and I can finally lose death.

...

It has been a long time since I have written in here. I have traveled a great distance, still haunted by the ghosts of my past. I've been searching for a way to beat death, to take control of death and bring back those I have killed, thus absolving myself in the eyes of justice. I've travelled far looking for something along these lines, but have only found more death. On my way east from Inkphrase, I killed many goblins who attacked me. Briefly, I stayed in a coastal city, hunting bandits in order to survive. That did not last long, and I continued on my way. Traveling through coastal villages, I decided to cross to the northern continent. Once there, I struck out for the west, towards the lands of the goblins. Perhaps there I could find something to ease my pain, or at least a death to end it. However, I stopped at an abandoned town on the way there.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I was told by the one of the few remaining inhabitants that there was a man who knew the secrets to life and death to the east. I have to find him. Tomorrow, I will depart for his tower.

...

As I approached the tower, I could feel it. This was the home of death. This was to be my final confrontation with death.

...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...

The corpses walked aside for me, and I was welcomed by my brothers. I am a god of death. This is my destiny. It has all been building up to this. Death was not chasing me, for I am death. I am a god. Hero? Nay, for I am what dwells beneath the surface. I am the lord of the underworld and all things that dwell within it. I am a god. The mortals will tremble before me. I have walked to the east, I do not need to sleep or eat. I have found an isolated town. It begins here. I have supplanted the lord, and now I will build my army of the dead. I will not stop at a simple tower, I will have the world bend before me, and I will become lord of the dead. Elf, Human, Dwarf, Goblin, Kobold... All will bow before Ad Deathblossoms the Carmine Weather, God of Death!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

((Save is here: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9812

That's it for me, although I'd like another turn much further down the line to see if I can come back as some peasant and kill my adventurer, he was legendary in most skills and maxed out on the four combat attributes by the time I finished. I can't wait to see what you guys do with the world. Also, it looks like a few wars started in the far north while I was playing my turn. That could be interesting. Anyways, I'll PM Th4DwAfY1 and let him know he has 24 hours. Cheers!))

Dang, you actually traveled quite a distance overall.

I hope Deathblossoms makes an unwelcome visit to someone's fortress later down the line.

Should we bother Glloyd to keep a short log of major characters in the OP? I think we should.

Mastahcheese:  I nominate you to maintain the short log of major characters in a post that Glloyd can just post a link to in the OP.  All in favor, post "Aye!"

I would, but most of my posts are from an iPod, so keeping logs would be difficult.

I don't mind maintaining a list. I'll toss it in the second post, because the only thing there is the map at the moment. I'll add a list for important locations too, and I'll add any fortresses that people found there too.

Also, we need forts.
It says "time to strike the earth", but so far Glloyd's struck nothing but skulls.
A great many skulls, but skulls nonetheless.

No, that's striking the corpses with the earth.
It doesn't work both ways unless you have a pick.

I've had a busy day or two, so I had to delay my turn a bit (Ugh, essays.)

I just put the Succession folder in my save file, but it didn't come up for me to play it in the main menu. I'll footer with it a bit, hopefully first update will be today.

It is a zip, so if you just unzip it wherever without changing the default path, you'll have to go into the "Succession" folder and take out the "Succession" folder with all the important stuff in it. Then just drop it in data/save and restart DF.
