Good luck!

I've updated the OP with links to your post, and to Elephant Parade's posts.

I look forward to seeing how this turn ends~

Question; we have ninety-six hours to play in, but should we lose a fortress before those ninety-six hours are done, do we immediately hand off of do we reclaim or settle elsewhere and continue until the deadline's reached?

It's up to you whether you want to attempt to reclaim, or try another expedition, or even switch to an adventurer. The point is that you have 96 hours for the world, not just for an individual character/fort. This leaves it open to players who want to set up forts spanning across multiple tiles, or players who want to build a fort then come at it as an adventurer later in their turn.

2 Granite

Journal of Cilob Degelkulet, Administrator

Six zombies have been spotted so far. Two undead swordsdwarves, a dwarven lasher, and a few goblins. Two of them have an uncanny resemblance to Lolor Whiplashed and Usbu Stealgoad, according to Udib Ozkakavuz, our chef, though he refused to tell me exactly who they were or why they were notable.

I've kept a cool head to reassure my underlings. I went out with the woodcutters to rescue our poor sheep, though if these horrors fail to shamble on I fear they'll be doomed anyways. Oh, gods, the migrants! How will we get more colonists if these undead bar the way?

3 Granite

We've sealed ourselves inside. I ordered the door boarded up, and hopefully that will keep the zombies out.

An air of unease suffuses the fort. We all know what's out there. Thank the gods we have a working still and some farm plots. In theory, we can simply endure forever in our muddy hole here. But the migrants - gods, this is a mess!

6 Granite

Construction proceeds on the bore. We're almost down through to stone. I've ordered everyone to take shifts shoring up the walls as a way to keep them busy and their minds off of the infestation outside. Even I've done a tour down in the hole, and I have to say it's nerve-wracking work. There's always the niggling fear in the back of your mind - what if the pump operator passes out from exhaustion at his post? Could I haul myself out in time before drowning?

7 Granite

Sounds of the yaks in pain made it through the walls today. A sober reminder that all that's between us and the ravening undead is a boarded-up tunnel and a dwarf's width in clay loam.

10 Granite

Water soaking through the ceiling. One of those damn months-long storms blew in topside. Delightfully atmospheric, and by that I mean we're now wet, cold, and afraid for our lives.

Still - better than being sober or dead. Fellow dwarves remain cheerful.

26 Granite

Success! We've struck stone! Blessed Atir, we finally made it! Now we can get around to building a proper fortress.

In the interests of fortress security, I have ordered a maze to be dug out as the entrance hall. We'll fill it with traps when we get a decent mechanic, but for now hopefully it will confuse all but the most clever invaders.

27 Granite

Pyrite struck. Fool's gold, but welcome nonetheless as the exchange rate between fool's gold and real gold is quite acceptable.

12 Slate

WE HAVE COAL!

16 Slate

AND marble!

19 Slate

Undead still outside, and the sheep are getting hungry. We have also struck calcite in the maze excavations.

21 Slate

Orthoclase and green jade, too. Bootlungs will be a wealthy fortress, provided those maggoty squatters bugger off.

26 Felsite

Spring's in full bloom outside. Zombies are still there ruining it. Maze excavation turning up more of the same rocks and minerals.

1 Hematite

With arrival of summer, we have begun planting cave wheat to brew into some nice beer and mill into flour. We have the stone now to make a quern. And I now have an office!

11 Hematite

The zombies are still skulking around out there, the sheep are starving, but by the gods the maze is proceeding well!

Work is slow because it's so large now that the miners barely reach the new zones before they have to come back for a beer or a nap. Once it's completed though we can begin carving out the fortress proper, and begin probing deeper for more...lucrative metals, heh heh...

I'm liking the look of that maze. SHould I expect someone coming back there as an adventurer?

We have struck morion in the maze tunnels. Zombies continue to plague overworld. I'm losing hope that anyone will ever come for us. They must have known where they were sending us, right? Not even the Colonization Office could be this stupid!

Thus concludes the First Settling of Bootlungs.

Word of caution, folks: zombies can teleport if you're not looking. Also, I never did get that wall torn down to open access to future adventurers...

Interesting. Was there an access hatch or something it slid through?

Also, by my reckoning, you still have two days. Interested in seeing what you'll do!

Oh, two more days? Cool, thought today was my last  :P

But that's the weird thing - there was no access hatch. Everything was just chugging along perfectly fine and then I started getting cancellation spam, and when I checked the stockpile one of the named zombies had materialized next to the food supply. I think I'll be reclaiming with a few heavily armed dwarven militiamen.

Yup, it's 96 hours and you started on the 17th. So you've got until the 21st.

That's really weird, I've yet to have that happen to me. But I haven't played fortress mode much in the new release, so it could be a new issue.

I started the reclaim and as it turns out, there was a hole in the roof of the stockpile chamber. No idea how it got there, but it's there. Looks like that's how our decaying friend got inside.

I've noticed that when digging in the soil layer open spaces will sometimes appear in the ceiling above. Perhaps when a tree is cut down and the roots dug out the tiles where the trunk had been are left as an open space. I've had giant keas and other wildlife hop down one of those holes and harass my dwarves.
