Can I hear the rumble as well? Listen to it if I can, and see if I can intuit something useful about it. Does it sound tectonic, or is it more of a distant explosion kind of deal?
Scrape off a bit of the wall with one of my generous assortment of basic tools, such as a screwdriver. Failing scraping, use a hammer and an awl in combination to get some pieces off the different-colored parts of the walls.
Is the large stone collected? If not, see if I can't put it into the toolbox.
You can.
It sounds more like an approaching subway train.
You get your sample of the wall, but the large stone is the size of a bowling ball. You'd need to empty your tool box out in order to fit it in there.
What's happening up there? We're exploring some underground tunnels, and it just started rumbling.
Go back to the main chamber. Listen for more rumbling.
Wrap the stone in duct tape then pick it up.
Rescue Chief and Han if things get dangerous.
You can still hear it, though it doesn't seem to be getting closer, it just seems to be passing nearby.
You make a sling out of duct tape and use it to pick up the stone. The tape doesn't stick to it, but the shape of the sling stops it from sliding away.
Th-that does not look good...
Make notes on the situation. Attempt moral support.
You take notes like a MOTHER FUCKER! YEAAAAAAAH BOOOOIIEEEEEE.
I shouldn't be allowed to do things like this.
What's happening up there? We're exploring some underground tunnels, and it just started rumbling.
We had to cover the Eater with sand, but you're so far away, that shouldn't... Get out.
"Save distance from the mound! Look out for spheres!"
Move away from the mound.

Half a robot foot. Robot right arm. Wears basic clothes when not in the Mk II.
You run away from the mound. In general, running away is always a good plan.
"Ugh, headache... gotta.... go..."
Brace self for mindfuckery, and hop into the Void. If Timmy is there, get out of the void.
You activate the void suit and drag yourself and a good quantity of sand into the oppressive darkness. There's nothing there, for the moment.
Move away from the mound, drop to one knee and get ready to fire on the Eater or any heat-orbs that appear (charge Con bonus. Might as well do it one last time, in case of changes.)
"Tell us when you want us to glass the bastard, Gorat."
You also move away from the mount, then drop down on one knee and aim your rifle at it.
Crawl to where going any further makes moving difficult and see if the passage narrows any further. If it keeps getting narrower, hold and back off a bit.
"I have a narrowing tunnel here. What's going on up there?"
The tunnel narrows to crawl height, then expands a bit and branches off in 3 directions, one of them straight down.
"Fascinating... Tek is just gonna kind of stand over here and wait. He does that a lot. Most valuable teammate, yes?"
Charge a dynamic uselessness bonus and gawk at mound of impending doom.
Doing nothing is a very valid tactic.
Marshall our remaining pew-pew heater guns for when the Eater re-emerges. Look for any sudden shifts in the sand pile.
You at least figure out who has them all and try to get everyone with them into a reasonable group.
"At least no one killed it this time" Vincent prepares to continue heating the eater when it emerges
You are now in a reasonable group
HAHAHAHAHA
The mound the eater is buried under glows a dull red and then begins to melt, turning into molten, glassy slag. The eater is still buried somewhere under it, not visible.
Dawn is just starting to break, the sky brightening on the horizon though the sun itself is still not yet visible.
