If you don't care, then why didn't you respond when I asked you if you wanted command of your team?

(Probably because I didn't see it. I was bored of waiting and stopped checking all that often.)

Furthermore, why sign up for the mission anyways?

(Figured I could get Jim permakilled more easily on a mission than on ship, and since Diplomacy wasn't that popular a choice I thought I'd let the people who wanted to do the Eater of Cold mission (for reasons other than getting killed off) get to. Don't worry. I'll try not to take anyone down with me when Jim eats it.)

Question: Jim's got a nice succulent body filled with space magic. Killing him here would be a bit disappointing. If you don't want to play him anymore, would you mind donating your body so that someone else could use it? I have an idea for how we could do that that might be interesting.

((And perhaps, if you do this, give up your position so Steve (or Milno and Miya) can appoint someone new to fill that niche? Would be nice to have someone to fall back on reliably for certain things.

Or did you mean giving the whole of Jim to another player?))

(Well, if Jim somehow gets back from this mission, I was going to just give his stuff away to certain people. Might as well hear PW's idea out though I probably won't agree to it.)

Still, I'm surprised nobody volunteered.  I'd do so in a heartbeat.
((Sure, but I had to first make sure no one on the team wanted to take up the position. And now...))
Commander, team Panda seems to be lagging behind and lacking cohesion. Permission to stay behind and ensure better team coordination and completion of mission objectives? Mesk and me could be swapped in team roster to ensure medical support of each team, if you deem that necessary, especially given his proximity to team Koala current position.

Well, my idea was to let Jim be piloted by the Heph guys. Set up a thread called "Jim's Brain" and let them talk ooc  about what do there, then have one of them post the action in the actual thread. I figured it would be a good way to let them still participate in missions, to keep Jim around and functional (since there's always gonna be SOMEONE around in that group of people) and to see if such a gestalt entity works.

I'd give you absolute power to veto any action, if you wanted to,  and any other players could post suggestions in the "Jim's Brain" tread, though it would be the Heph guys who decided.

Permission granted. Mesk, do you mind being swapped? If not, welcome to glorious team Koala."

((Yes, OOC thread, I know.  I don't want any chance for this message to be missed.

Serious: Please please pleassse let PW do this.  Us Heph people never get to participate in missions without forfeiting our post, so this would be really nice.  It's also a good idea in-character, because this way Jim doesn't just get an ignoble ending where he fades away.  Jim is a hero, basically an icon for ARM, so something like that just wouldn't be a good enough end.  If Jim dies, it'll have to be something like overloading his amps to destroy a ghost ship about to glass a civilian world.  Something amazing and heroic.))

((One problem I could see: would there need to be consensus when there's no obvious way forward? Would people need to vote (thereby maybe slowing things down)? Do they also do his rp'ing, can they take up his commander role (aka bossing others around)? Should they try to stay as much in character as possible?))

Okay, team Panda, let's catch up with the plan and proceed along our objectives' list. Without us, team Koala might be flanked from the north, so we need to reach the positions rather now. I'll provide covering destruction and scouting data while you approach. Flint, I'll back you up with those exiting the buildings.
For the HMRC. "As we are all meant to live or die for the HMRC." Huh, why would I remember that now?..

"Dammit team panda, do you need a written invitation? Get your sorry asses over here!

Team koala, secure A-12 for now, shoot targets of opportunity otherwise. Don't venture too far alone, stat near your team."

Go around A-12 to the main road, look around with cameyes and take stock.

Charge dynamic con bonus.

Tell Steve not to bombard anymore unless he can do so in a way we wouldn't be affected.

You run around to the other side of the building and onto the road. You get a good view of the front of A-12. It appears to be a hospital. Hm.

Men are pouring out of buildings c1-3 and 20-22, as well as other buildings, mostly from the C buildings. You're trying to count exactly how many gray uniformed men are charging down the hill that you don't even notice the RPG coming in. It catches you in the back of the head and wreathes you in flame and smoke. It doesn't hurt, but it is pretty annoying.

((I wish I'd remembered to have Lyra research the MKIII pre-mission, so she'd know to turn on hover/buzz mode. as things are I'm not fond of making unnecessary aux rolls.))
Catch up with Miya! continue to focus on defending teammates from incoming fire if necessary. If I notice an enemy that is particularly dangerous then I'll use my microwave amp to sear a fist-sized spot inside their chest. Ignore unarmed/low threat enemies unless they become an immediate threat to me.
((not going for the brain because heart+lungs+etc is a larger target and I'm likely to be doing my attack from a long distance.))

You get over to the ruins of the A13 building just in time to see someone fire a Rocket propelled grenade at Lars. You lash out at the rocket, slapping it away from your teammates, but knocking them off their feet at the same time.

Renen can just Flash his way there, Jim can use a coconut tree to catapult himself there and Illgeo can fly once he's ready, carrying Jim if he wants to. Can I just assume I am there so that Mesk is not left to fend for himself?

If I'm not there, fly there.

If I'm there, then try to approach the buildings the soldiers are exiting from (preferably from an angle that allows my new paint job to look cool), set speakers to full and address the soldiers while pointing away from the base with one of my two cannons. Keep repeating the following translated to the native language using the few words I learned from the phrasebook, trying to sound intimidating: "You surrender. You retreat. Or we make you."

((I had actually planned a little speech here, but then I realized they would not be able to understand it. I guess we'll just have to dub it when we make the propaganda clips.))

If at any point they take hostile action  or if they disobey, then fire a wide dispersion low intensity microwave beam at them with the intent of immobilising them through pain. Not for too long though, I don't want to fry their brains or cause their heads to explode. I'll give more permanent ways of dealing with them next post.

If they comply, keep an eye on them with cam-eyes to make sure they don't do anything stupid. Point at someone important-looking in the crowd (or failing that, someone at random) and say "No you. You stay. I questions."

We'll have renen and Jim stay where they are for the moment.

You come in from the side (F on the map) and start broadcasting your message of...relative peace. They respond by firing an RPG in your direction.

We'll assume you have time to react before it hits.

"Hmm... probably an evil dentistry ring.  Yeah... definitely implanting government mind-control implants in the teeth of innocent civilians."
Continue to level every building I see.

Follow the MiyaCharge A17(flying). Shoot enemies as needed.

A-17 and a trench of earth behind it are vaporized by a shot from mesk, and considering his aim, you rethink landing on a-18. Instead, you land on a-12 and start taking potshots at the crowd.

Lars enjoyed this, and shouted a prayer of encouragement over the team comms.  "Come, Kal-rath!  Come join us in this glorious struggle, that we may together bathe in the blood of our foes!  Ingram and Vo-Nos, we seek to please you!  All forward, for the glory of Steve!"

Carve a hole in the building with the Raduga.  Engage hostiles; ignore civilians.

You're positioning yourself to cut a hole down into the building when something slaps you straight off your feet and face down onto the ground. Ow.

Maurice saluted Brother Lars, as he entered the building in a suitably fashionable way, and then crouched on the roof.
I'll cover the flanks while the rest of the team catches up. Just inform me if you decide to raze the building, after all. Maurice grinned.
Crouch to present lower profile.

If Team Panda is lagging behind (most importantly Flint/Gilgamesh):
Look closer at the people leaving the buildings (use the standard suit camera to zoom in, if needed): are those sods, are they armed at all, or do they appear to be civilians? Unless unarmed civilians, demolish with my MFM the key walls of C-4&C-5 buildings, so that the presumed barracks would collapse on enemy troops pouring out. Use a few football-sized spheres placed tactically to achieve that outcome, don't use more power than necessary and utilize the Uncon bonus from before.

If Team Panda is actually already out there (Flint/Gilgamesh covers the northern threat):
Find a nice vantage point on the north-eastern edge of the roof (ready to jump down if the team decides to raze A-12 building) and look out for further enemy reinforcements.
If an enemy battlesuit appears, pop the pilot with a football-sized a few hundred degrees Celsius-hot fire sphere centered in the middle of the cockpit.

((Edited because of re-reading the info on those people.))

Lyra's big psychic kitty swat slams you particularly hard, literally flattening you against the roof and knocking out a tooth or two against the inside of your helmet. Ow...

Scan people coming from the buildings, look for any weaponry. Kill anything with rifle that has weaponry. Above all, stay within Miya's vicinity so I don't die.

(By vicinity I mean same general region. Like if he heads off to A-11 I follow)

You manage to get over toward miya just in time to see the rocket hit him and to see where it came from. You take a few shots in that direction, hit one man, but not the one with the rocket.

Lars hopped back on his feet, pulling his Raduga into position again.  "Behold!  The hand of Algis has shielded me from harm!  Believe and ye shall too be spared!  Sing praises to Algis! And Ingram!"

Sing some praises to Ingram on that crowd of soldiers.  Cut down as many as possible.

"I've got a drone up. Use it to check for vehicles. Keep it flying high."

((I'm trusting my life to untested alien devices. Let's hope this doesn't give them superpowers or something.))

Dodge, at the same time firing both of my weapons at the enemy, Indigo Hydra Rainbow Cannon with the intention to intercept missiles and Visible light High dispersion High intensity Laser Cannon Raduga with the intention of blinding people so that they can't fire more. Since I haven't fired Indigo Hydra before, in case it matters, I'll just pull the trigger until something happens and stop pulling if nothing happens after a while.

If still alive, land behind C10 and microwave those fools with the Raduga Laser Cannon, aiming to incapacitate.
