((Maybe later.  For now, no giant computer overlords.))

Lars nodded.  This was the meat of the discussion here.  "A fair question.  As we said before, we have a fleet of ships and have captured a factory world, so we have a strong production base and the means to move what we produce.  I'm sure you are aware of the UWM's Sod troopers.  We have the ability to produce those as well, as well as an upgraded model with the brain in a robot body.  There are a troop of them on our ship right now, and I can have some sent down for your inspection, if you please.  If it is troops you seek, we can provide some for your defense.  Depending on your needs, we can arrange transport of larger numbers of them, as well as their arms and armor.  We have flying drone robotic weapon platforms as well that we can produce, using advanced robotics technology recovered from a Quiet world."

Lars was silent a moment.  "We can produce more of our latest weapons prototypes and have them shipped to you, if advanced weaponry is what you seek."

"Our troops have successfully turned back a retributive strike against the factory world; many of the soldiers in this room were instrumental in its capture and defense.  We are producing training videos and materials that we could provide to traditional troops as well."

"We have the means to produce armies, advanced equipment, and a track record of defeating the UWM armies." Lars sat back and waited for the response.

Start daydreaming about being a space whale, floating in space, eating space krill.

Put gloves and helmet back on. Keep an eye on the situation.

Ask Steve in private channel:
"Hey, Steve, is there any way to alert any UWM force on the planet to our presence here without making it obvious that we want to do that? I was thinking that if the negotiations look like they are going to fail, we can tell the UWM that we have made some kind of deal with them. The UWM will probably attack them or try to assassinate their leader or do some other offensive action and thus out of self preservation, they'll be forced to join us. If we protect them from the attack they may even consider us our saviours. The classic the enemy of my enemy trick, only you trick your enemy to become their enemy. Like those movies where the monster hunters are the ones releasing/creating the monsters in the first place so that they can have a job."

not eating the heavilly spiced food, but lying quietly on my cushion and listening.
You curl up on the cushion but keep your ears pointed toward the conversation.

My, a curious cuisine. Maybe I should try bringing it to the Sword - we do have a kitchen, after all, and people will be happy to eat something new for a change, especially something this much unlike the usual food served in the cafeteria.
Mmmm, tasty-

Well, you can keep a good eye on whats going on in this room and a bit in the others using heat, but the walls are far too thick for you to use x-ray to any real degree. Everything just comes back white.

"The issue, if we were to agree to this alliance, is not the problem of repelling the forces on the planet now. I believe our army is such that we could do this on our own." He glances over at the first adviser you met and the man nods, almost imperceptibly. The speaker continues, "The problem we face is that, if we do break free, the United Worlds will respond. They will attempt to retake this world, and they will bring a force which will be beyond our capacity to defend against. It is the continued defense of our world, and the safety of our subjects that is the true issue. We would desire freedom, we would not balk at providing supplies, information, researchers, new techniques, nor receiving them. But we can not extend our hand in friendship till we are certain it will not be severed as a result. If we are to join you, you must protect this planet, a not insignificant effort."

((I'd tell them they can count on our support. Seeing as how, if Steve's briefing is to be believed, they are going to be an important partner, then I think defending them would have been something we'd try to do anyways. Still, kinda wondering what Steve will have to say.))

On a private line, inquire Steve to our capacity of defending them. And would defending them mean not being able to defend other worlds?

Also, just to check, would it be possible for me to subtly create an invisible force dome shield around us (that the negotiators wouldn't notice) in the room to protect them in case of unexpected trouble?

Lars nodded at this.  "A valid concern.  Know that we would protect this as one of our core worlds.  I do not deny that our movement would benefit greatly from your assistance, so we will in turn value the protection of this planet and the people who live here.  As I said, we have troops and equipment available that I could have stationed here, with plans to reinforce them further to supplement what you have already.  We have ships available that we could divert to provide guard in orbit, and we have the capability to produce more."

Here Lars looks toward Miyamoto for confirmation, much as the adviser did himself earlier.

"We could work out specifics as to what a sufficient presence here would be, but I feel sure that we could provide.  Know that the ship we came in on is not the only one of its class we have."

Bold text

((Lars is a bit out of his element for fleet status, though he knows there are several other HMRC ships out there, and I'm 99% sure that Steve said some of the others are of the same size as the Sword.

How does the Sword stack up to the ships of the UWM Heph assault?  I know it's not primarily designed for ship-ship combat.))

Check map. Is there a town/city around the palace? If not, what is in the surrounding area? Can I identify any avenues of attack? How big is this palace anyway in comparison to a well known landmark?

>That depends on the degree of defense. Of course supplying them would mean a drain on supplies that could go elsewhere, but as of right now we've got two planets to defend, Heph and this one. We're not spreading ourselves too thin yet.

It is possible, though difficult. It would have to be specially shaped so as not to intersect and sever anything.

Seemingly contradictory demands but not really.

"Specifics are important. Vague assurances will not suffice." The man says gravely.

>I'm going to patch you in to the heph station. Talk to them about specifics. According to their logs we have 1379 robo sods armed and ready for use. Offer them all and more in the future. As many as they'll need. Ask them for specifics of their needs and we'll see about their manufacturing.

Did I give you a map? Can't remember. Anyways, the there's a city around the palace and the palace is quite large. Lets see...Something like the Palace of the Parliament, in Romania. Google some images.

((Small note: I think we should have more sods than what the wiki says right now, it just hasn't been updated recently. Not that it really matters I think, just letting you know.

By the way, Toaster, shall I do Hep communicating, or would you like to? Or anyone else who would like the chance, and who knows enough about the matter to be able to discuss it? I'm fine either way.))

@Miyamoto, private comms:  "This guy is asking for a lot. Not that that is unreasonable of him. But it might be a good idea to ensure they will provide what Hephaestus requires. Which means we should also ask them what they can provide. Because the more qualified workers and specialised equipment they can provide, the faster we can can build what they need. Because I think Steve had Hephaestus running on a skeleton crew when we left it."

Ask Steve: "Do you think there's any chance the UWM will try to build another 'Steve'? And if yes, how bad would that be?"

((Will edit quote of you giving me the map and phrasebook later.))

Keep watching until Jim has a reason not to, i.e. he sees something unusual or something in the room requires his immediate attention.

"I hope Lars will get to that later on. Remember though, we need them more than they need us, so we're at a negotiational disadvantage. But yes, it would be good to also know in more detail what they can offer us in the short term in terms of manpower. Let's just wait a little longer, or check with Steve if he won't deal with the nitty gritty later on."
