I'm like 80% certain you can't use spawn unit in DF40.X
Unfortunately I also don't really know how to DFHack but I think there is a "rename" DFHackery thing, so you could adventure up with some dwarf Drunks (you should be able to rename their professions once recruited) from a hill dwarf settlement, change their names, and set off to save the Commune!

The problem with that is that I can only recruit soldiers. I only created the fortress to build the small area I wanted to build, so there was no need for a military. I've already used rename on my two companions, but I don't think there are any more recruitable companions in the whole world. It's only 5 years old and there's almost no one in it. (It's a pocket world.)

Putnam answered me with a suggestion on how to make it work, though, so I'm going to try that. Please stand by until I'm able to get this done. (Tomorrow doesn't exist for me because of this stupid conference I have to go to, so we'll see if I have the time/energy on Sunday.)

Thanks for the continued support, everyone! It looks like the technical problems are solved (thanks to Putnam!), so now I just need to find the time to make the next videos. During the week all my spare time has been taken up with NaNoWriMo, but I'll shoot for this weekend. The story must continue!
