Next episode is in the works, but is being held up by a combination of NaNoWriMo and an extra-busy work week. I hope I can get it up tonight. If not, it will probably be Thursday, because tomorrow I have a full day of work followed by traveling for interviews. Next weekend is also shot because I have to go to a conference all day Saturday (literally, have to wake up at 4:30 to travel there, will be back late). I'm giving NaNo priority for now, but don't worry, I am still chipping away at the videos as well.

I'm having trouble with this one because DF is so very difficult to make interesting. I had planned to do a quick exploration of the local SPOILER then jaunt into the countryside to take down some kind of evil something, which would be declared to be the source of all the evil things, before heading back home. Unfortunately, it's not going well. DF is incredibly difficult to use for video. Nothing moves unless you do, and all the interesting text is jammed in the very bottom of the screen in tiny letters. It's also far more difficult to cheat and set things up the way you want them. I spent about 40 minutes wandering around trying to find a dwarf who knew the location of a bad guy, and it turns out the only one we can find is a dingo. And even if I manage to find a suitable opponent, how am I going to kill them without getting my idiot NPC cohorts killed in the process?
So there will probably be a change of plans. I'll have to find another way to do this. I am working on it, and if anyone has any suggestions, bring 'em on. Just don't suggest tilesets or anything like that. I want the ASCII graphics, I just need to find a way to make the action itself interesting without destroying my plot.

Do you have any programs can do animations? Because with the use of a grid tool and the ASCII you could make some custom area and movement etc etc. Or do you want to try and use real game play footage?

Ha! I don't have enough time to put together a 5-minute video using simple game footage. Have you ever made an animation? It takes AGES to put anything together. It's a nice idea, but completely impossible given how little time I have.

I will use real game play footage. I might try to dress it up with some sound effects to make it a little more lifelike. I tried doing funny voices for conversations but they sound awful, so I may just use a text to speech program of some sort for a few lines. But I think I'm just going to super-simplify the story and shorten the amount of time I spend using DF footage, so I can get back to the far more interesting stuff.

I doubt I'll have time to work on anything today, since I'm completely exhausted from work and still have to do all of my NaNo writing, but I'll do my best. Hopefully I can get back on a regular posting schedule soon. Sorry for the delays.

Nuh nuh its all good and yes I'v animated before but never anything that took more then 1hr and I'd only end up with about 30sec of footage. So I guess I know what you mean. And if you have to scrap the DF stuff that's cool this is about mine-craft anyway. But on the note of Uessing DF My Mine-craft skin wears a half broken mask of a ASCII Dwarf.

I've been asking for help in the DFHack thread, but I've been completely ignored, so I'm asking here, since you guys are the most motivated to help me get this done.

In DF, I need to get certain mobs to the "fortress" where I currently am. It is sadly pretty far from any other landmarks. The map only has a 5-year history, so there's not much there. There is a necromancer tower on the map, but getting there, finding the book, and getting out alive, without killing my painstakingly recruited NPC companions (apparently the only 2 in the whole world who were willing to join me), is something that will take many hours and probably a whole lot of save-scumming. That means a lot more time before the next 5-minute video clip can be released.

Is there a way to either:
1. use a script of some sort to spawn mobs on the map, or
2. make the player invincible, or at least raise the skills to maximum without spending hours grinding?

If not, I will have to come up with *another* another plan.

.-. Damn I've never used DFHack either. Actually the only experience with mods I have is tile-sets. Hey maybe try and see if the people on that YouTube mega channel could be of help?

Um... hmm...

I'm not so good with Dfhack either. My nearest guess is that you paste it into a text editor, then save it as a .lua in your hack/scripts folder.
