15th Granite, Early Spring
Welcome to Guildpaddled. Population: ONE
The mission: To survive 1 and a half game years and produce some useful equipment for an adventurer.
Continued grinding weaponsmith skills.
9th Felsite
While on a 'break' the sole remaining dwarf decided to walk out of the supposedly sealed fortress entrance. I think he must have climbed the wall over the raised bridge, maybe? I don't even know how that could be a valid path.
17th Felsite
Realize that it is late spring and there is no trade depot. Ironically I will later find it completely impossible to trade for other reasons.
Summer arrives
Trade depot just finished.
13th Hematite.
Cut down some feather trees. They should make very safe training weapons.
24th Hematite
Remove some ramps to make access from the north slightly harder for any unwanted visitors.
8th Malachite
Migrants arrive!
Autumn arrives
The first game crash happens. I go back to the last seasonal save and save the game every two days while waiting for it to crash again.
On advice from a strange old dwarf gypsy I spent the
13th limestone and the next 13 days in bed with the pillow over my head while saying 'la-la-la I can't hear you'.
26th limestone
I awaken from the odin-sleep.
3rd sandstone
Alligators by the trade depot! I hurriedly define a burrow, assign everyone to it and shut the drawbridge.
We have a fair amount of drink, but not much food. Lots of cats, though. Problems like these I could solve in my sleep.
9th sandstone
The alligators are waiting for me to come out. Let them wait.
I lay out plans for a small extension.
4th timber
The six alligators have wandered away. I give orders for the drawbridge to be lowered and allow two of my four adult dwarves to go out to collect items. The skill of our weaponsmith is slowly improving.
22nd timber
We have a well and a meeting room. A really crappy meeting room. OK, a furniture stockpile that I tell people is a meeting room.
28th timber
Miasma! Who's on refuse dumping duty? I tell bomrek to do nothing except dump refuse into the garbage pile. He chooses to do nothing.
Winter arrives
16th Moonstone
Moved butchers, miasma problem still not solved.
1st Opal
I decide to put everything into melting down steel items.
17th Opal
First steel bar produced!
10th obsidian
Last silver bar used up in practice runs. Start work on steel armor (with no skill at all)
19th obsidian
Run out of steel before steel breastplate can be made.
26th obsidian
Remember we have a tiny bit of iron and plan to make steel from it.
Spring arrives!
Soon one whole year will have passed
6th Granite
First (and last) pig iron bar made!
9th Granite
Retire fortress to avoid caravan(?) crash.
Another 14 days spent pretending the world doesn't exist.
23rd Granite
Unretire fortress.
28th Granite
Made a steel bar. I have just enough to make a steel mail shirt. Better in some ways than a steel breastplate, I suppose.
17th Slate.
It seems that we will not be able to receive caravans at this fortress again. Perhaps saboteurs from a rival clan are destroying them? In any case establishing farmland is now our first priority.
12th Felsite
First plump helmet spawn planted.
Summer arrives
Time is getting low.
14th Hematite
Found gold. Don't really have anything I can do with it. Guess it'll make fancy statues or something.
16th Hematite
Broke into another cavern.
7th Malachite
Neither caravan nor migrants arrived this season. Our exploratory miner hit warm stone.
10th Malachite
A forgotten beast arrives. But screw that guy - he doesn't have access to anydwarf.
Time is getting very low. I start working on some slightly secret stuff and put everything else on hold.
23rd Malachite
Migrants arrive! And the game didn't crash!
28th Malachite
We now have 11 adult dwarves
7th Galena
Retired to avoid crash. Third lot of 14 days skipped.
21st Galena
Unretired fortress.
27th Galena
Retire to avoid crash. Yes. We had two crashes this season. >_< Fourth fortnight missed.
13th Limestone Early Spring
14th Limestone. The forgotten beast WALKED THROUGH A ****ING WALL while the fortress was retired.
14th should be the end of my period, except I had to retire four times! That's two months of time wasted.
19th Limestone
Finally blocked off lower levels. Only to realize that the forgotten beast is dead, somehow. I think the cats must have killed it. Actually ... I think it was a kitten! The cat child Desiskirud - name gained for killing a poisonous forgotten beast mite. Two dwarves died in the rampage, including the weaponsmith. Why does the weaponsmith always die first?
I spend the last of my time moving useful stuff to the SW corner of the map area and doing a little work on my secret-ish project.
