Diplomacy is a classical board-game set in 1900 Europe and moving forward six months at a time. The basic rules are simple, but like chess, they build a complex web of strategy.

You can play it in person or over the internet on several websites.

Right now, I'm joining a large game on vDiplomacy. Anyone is welcome to join here, regardless of if you're an old hand or a totally new player.

For old and new, here's an illuminating introduction to the game with some discussion of the strategy thereof.

That's it. We've finally crossed over and become the nation of Da Orky Boyz.

I'm not too committal to these kinds of games, although I love the way the diplomacy works.  I wish the game lasted a longer time, so we could see various alliances block up, and the game had more ways to win than conquest so everyone's aims were not so shallow.

I'm joining.  Haven't played in a while either (in fact, I think since the last B12 game.)  This'll be an interesting one, with all the neutral space filled by players;  The Netherlands are the new Austria.

Nevermind.  Looking at it it , playing any of the central powers will be even more brutal than usual.

Incidentally, the rules of vDiplomacy remind one not to negotiate outside of the game, a reasonable enough request given how effective the chat system is. I'm glad we've managed to fill up the game, just... let's avoid discussing it out of game too much.

This thread is still fine for general discussion and recollections of great games gone by, and potential games yet to come.

Once I've gotten some more experience, I plan on running an Imperialism game, which includes an entire world map and a LOT of players. It's set in 1860ish, so at the start of the game there's both a USA and a CSA, plus Mexico and Brazil in the new world. It can take years to play. I don't think there's any other victory forms.

I'm starting a massive game- we need 20 more players. All are welcome!

It's a Chaos game where everyone starts with one of the starting 34 SCs.

Please do. Rest assured that's basically what I've been doing for my past five games.

Diplomacy seems like a fun game every time I look at it, but the pretty border fetishist in me tells me to stay the hell away from it.

DF Players never truly leave.  They just abandon the fortress for a few years and then reclaim.

We're starting a new game! Yes Simplemachines, even after 120 days.

It's another giant chaos game, so maybe fun for new players to try out since they'll probably get eaten quickly anyway. Low-stress low-commitment.
