Its fine, but what exactly do you expect "Modular" to do? I can't make it easier to get upgrades, since those are essentially level ups.

Also, it should be noted that Alchemist did not discover any form of electricity, even in this world, with all of electricity's purposes being replaced with alchemy. That means the railgun would be powered by alchemical rails. Most weapons are combustion, like modern day ones, focusing on the "chemistry" part of alchemy and the real-world help they where to fire arm development.

Basically, take your science fiction and replace the word "science" with "magic".

Alright, would having the level up-bonuses be more powerful work? or do I need to change it still?

Maybe treat it as having an adaptable system? Parts, particularly weapons, could be swapped out for equivalents between missions, maybe salvage of other crafts' systems at reduced effectiveness in the field through some sort of interfacer?

EDIT: Looking at the particular mech, I would treat it this way. The fifteen points is a reserve which can be allocated to other stats on the suit with a quick refit.

Its more modern-but with mechs then "science fiction", but yeah. That is what "Punk" means. I think. If he wants a railgun, I am not going to stop him. Magic does allow for some cool things, but in general the technology would be closer to modern day than futuristic. You know, like modern day super soldiers and wizards. ...Alright, maybe "Near future"

And to clarify, they *do* know what electricity is, as they have a functional model of the atom and knowledge of electrons, they just don't have any way to practically use electricity and have no plans to do so, aside from a shock attack or two. No reason to try powering a light with electrons going down a copper wire when you can effectively light a whole city with a few lines.

Nope, level bonuses are fixed, it would be rather unfair to give you even a single extra skill point just for a module.

That sounds interesting, and might work.

Alright, like Remthura's idea of having it be a buffer of sorts. Not sure what to do for a backstory. How complex will it need to be?

More detailed it is, the better, obviously :P.

Lets see:
16 years old, guy, curly brown hair longer than average, boyish and rather pretty. Can I just do a description for now?

Well, 16 seems a bit young for the level of training this is supposed to involve, in my opinion. I estimated the pilot program as like 10 years, if you take into account everything. After all, if you want to fly for the modern airforces you need a few years of instruction and practice, and those vehicles aren't artisan-built.

That is a little bit long. They are pretty complicated, but they don't take longer to comprehend then a modern PHD 0_0. In general, it can take anywhere between several months and several years to learn how to drive, depending on the pilot, the mech, and how "In tune" they are with each other. On top of that, the ongoing war means that many soldiers are sent into the field even if they aren't experts at piloting the mechs, in comparison to the modern US. Air force were all pilots are highly skilled professionals. In the end, it would probably work better if you see the Alchamechs more like tanks than fighter planes. After all, most are far slower than a car, compared to the infinitely complex machinery and physics that go into flying faster than the speed of sound.

In the end, I will have to allow 16 year old pilots on principle, simply because "Teenage Mech Pilot" is a staple of Mech fiction, with dozens of  more outrages examples that can't be excused by "The machine is magic."

Yeah, it is fine, covers all the bases. It at least gives us a motivation.

Yeah, I figured the fact that they're custom-built and ludicrously expensive would drive the use towards a more elite base, because the military can't just afford to throw them away :P.
Also, is breaking the speed of sound possible, then? I threw in something about that in my backstory, and I figured I might try to go full-jetplane at some point.

Eh, custom built but not *too* ludicrously expensive. After all, the structure can be made with simple transmutation, its all the alchemy that has to make it move that is difficult. Some are elite-aces made by expert or even legendary Alchemists, but the rank and file can pretty easily be made by conscripts who just graduated collage. Even with the resources allocated and time spent to build it the mech and train the troops, cannon fodder mechs are still generally considered worth it.

Again, kind of like tanks in WWII. Some are large, powerful, and expensive, but they still throw up a bunch of cheaply made ones because they still have a big advantage over infantry.

Certainly! After a few level ups, at least. A bunch of level ups, perhaps. Now I really need to get to class, I hope everything I posted just made sense.
