Single Combat vs Titan
« on: September 20, 2014, 02:33:47 pm »

Hello, all -- I'm a newish player who's been lurking on the forums; finally had to create an account to share this bit.

So, this completely green, leather-clad, untrained civilian militia member, instead of going to where she was supposed to be stationed, headed out to meet the titan one-on-one. (This titan had just splattered an enraged bull over a 5x5 area without taking a scratch).

Another dwarf lost to sheer stupi....

wait... the titan's "Q" icon background just changed color the way a corpse does. It couldn't...

[space][k]

Yup, it's dead jim. WTF just happened?

[r]

Turns outshe single-handedly killed the titan by hitting it in the head with her leather shield after biting off it's... well, the log is kind of vague about what part of his "lower body" she bit off:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

DO NOT MESS WITH THIS WOMAN.

Her nickname has been changed to "Titanslayer", and yes, she got herself promoted to "Champion".

What was it made of?  A lot of Titans and Forgotten Beasts will be very physically strong, but also literally made of vomit and be destroyed in one good crossbow shot.

Yeah, titans aren't as strong as they were before they were basically elementals. This one looks to be made out of something fragile as a dwarf punch can sever parts. I prefer marsh titans, they tend to be made of a weaker material than others. Or maybe I just think they're weaker usually.

Now god help you if you get a rock-type titan.

The Mountain Titan has appeared!  It is an enormous scorpion composed of granite.  Beware its poisonous blood!

Granted, it was made of salt, which isn't exactly steel. But this titan had just had a curb-stomp battle with an enraged bull, and the enraged bull didn't scratch it. So, while it's not the same as quickly dispatching a bronze colossus single-handed, I'm still pretty impressed.

The description just said "salt". Your guess is as good as mine as to whether that meant "rock salt" or something else.

The only Marsh Titan I ever met was made of granite. It had wings, a trunk, and 3 tails. I was slightly puzzled, but it died after enough swings of an axe.

I'm surprised the bull didn't kill it. Probably just missed.

I've seen 'salt' before, but I still have no idea where exactly the game pulls 'salt' from, though, as it only appears from titans made of salt who are bleeding [salt is a 'covering/dusting' type material if I remember right].. It's kinda an inception moment now that I think of it.

Nah, salt is another of those easy materials - it's hardcoded into the game but not used for anything except procedurally-generated creatures.

I once went 1-to-1 with a spider-titan.

One hit.

It was made of salt.

Titans are generally huge disappointments. I had a five week old baby decapitate one.
