Issue with the kind of logic about Matt 6 is that you don't know how many Christians are following that rule.

Out of curiosity, I looked it up:

The second one, well, again it doesn't say it was rape, but I can understand doubt about that. It might have been for slaves, the reason the non-virgins would have been killed was because they would have been seen as tainted by association.

On the topic of slavery, Israelite slavery was pretty decent for the time. You weren't allowed to hold someone a slave for longer than seven years; after that, you had to let them free, if they wanted to be. If they didn't (if, for example, you took good care of them, and they didn't think they could make it on their own), you went and pierced their ears, to show that they didn't want to be free. After that, then they were a slave for life.

I still....don't see how it's justified at all. Both are crimes. Killing someone's brothers, father and their mother, then keeping them as a slave for seven years away from their home hardly seem like the actions of people you'd want to know. A slave can be raped just as easily as a captive, and I certainly think the wording is indicating that rape is on the table.

Crimes? Not at the time. Wasn't seen as reprehensible, either - you'd probably have had great difficulty convincing anyone not to take home slaves after going to war.
Note that nowadays very few Jews raid enemy settlements and take slaves.

I'm not sure what you mean, but if you meant if I believe absolute law is a concept that makes sense, then no, I don't.

The Matthew stuff is hands down my favorite shit in the bible. It's amazing.
When I was trying to actually read through the whole bible, that part hit me more than literally any other part, because I finally realized all the blatant hypocrisy.

It's actually one of the reasons I listened to the Mormons in the first place, they ask for donations, but they make sure to never do so publicly, they deal with it behind closed doors.
At least the church I went to did, can't vouche for the rest.

In my opinion I much prefer donating in the name of god and staying away from social gain as much as possible because I honestly don't like people that I don't know who know me. I don't like the social structure of American highschool either though

Yeah, Psalms is great, especially the one that Baffler mentioned.

For those of you who don't know what Psalms is, it's a collection of the words to 150 hymns. It's also really poetic.
