I think it'd be good to take any further physics-related discussion into the SCIENCE thread:

If you say you're christian, you're christian...

Not so, according to Matthew 7:22-23, pretty much all of Jude and probably some other places as well.

Matthew 7:22 actually says that people will lie to try to get into heaven, but Jesus has his eye on them.

I don't see it in Jude.

Quote from: Jude 1:4
For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

I think that meant the Pharisees or such. People who join solely to undermine the whole thing.
Or maybe people who join to take advantage of other people. False prophets perhaps.

Also, a lot in the bible gets lost or misinterpreted in translation.
I have only ever read Swedish and Danish versions of it, so I am not sure exactly what is written in the English one.
And then we have to account for the bibles written with modern language in mind.

(edit: and yes, I am back in this thread again, seems safe for now..)

That looks to me like a reference to the people who go 'Okay, I'm a Christian now, so I don't have to follow any of the commandments or teachings of Jesus. I'll go to heaven anyway!'

As I said earlier, actual faith is highly likely to manifest as following the Laws and teaxhings.

... a Question for the faithful in this thread. Atheist Christians are totally a thing. The reject god as a workable explanation for anything, but follow the teachings of Jesus. What are your opinions on this?

I find this a bizarre contradiction, as the lessons taught by Jesus are hardly exclusive to Christianity, and part of being a Christian is accepting Jesus as divine.

They're wonderful people, but if they don't believe that Jesus is the Christ &c they're not Christians in the commonly used sense of the word. They may syntactically? technically? be Christians in that I believe the word translates to 'little Christ', but not in the usual meaning.

What do people think of the tendency for the most educated people to be atheistic or deistic? Surely it suggests religion, as commonly seen, when met with intelligent opposition can be overcome?

Clarify? I'm having difficulty making much sense out of that, because it reads to me like 'most educated people are either religious or not, therefore religion falls apart in the face of intelligent opposition'.

Just wondering if the tendency for religion to be less common/deistic the further up the educational pecking order suggests that, when subjected to a scrutiny as such people apply to everything, it falls to atheism/deism.

I think it's a question not really suited for discussion in this thread :I

Oh, okay, fair enough. Just a tad general, I suppose.

What do people think of this?

I'm pretty much with Calvert. I don't really see how not wanting to make a cake that directly disagrees with your religious alignment is a crime, especially since it's not like the baker is the only one in the country.

Theologically, it's a more complicated question. I'd say he's obliged to do it, since the Bible pretty much asks for Christians to be total doormats, but on the other hand it would probably be seen as a tacit approval of gay marriage, which could be construed as misleading other Christians, possibly.

I say he should have baked the cake.

I think he shouldn't.

And the fact that the gay marriage people chose the one definitely known Christian bakery to make? I dunno if that's a coincidence or not.
