With quiet chuckle you shake your head, taking another swig from the glass you somewhat fondly remember the time spent in the mechanic shop. It had been a unholy, blistering temperature inside but you had learned many useful tidbits that had served you well and had certainly saved you many a coin in your young life. Although at times you had doubted it was worth it at all, especially when you remembered the red hot tempers of the elder mechanics. With a glance at your mug, you lift it up and finish off what is left of the water. Letting out a soft sigh as you smack your lips and leave the tavern.
Once your outside, the constant, rolling waves of heat seem to wash over you. Sliding your hands into your pockets as you make your way down the road to the garage. Eyeing a few particular scruffy fellows as you walk before shaking your head. This town had really gone to shit lately, not that it had been the best of places beforehand. Stepping into the garage and flashing a worn slip of paper at the attendant is all it takes for you to gain access to the parking areas. With a soft sigh you walk down the rows till stopping at number sixteen. There was only a single vehicle in the row. Yours. As you walk towards it, you let your mind drift to how you had acquired your ride...
1. A raid, Everything had seemed fine, you had gone through your usual routine, cleaned the shop up a bit when the sirens began blaring throughout the town. Your heart froze as you knew what that sound had meant immediately. The blasted Loose Screws had attacked again. You find yourself huddled in the shop with your uncle as you listened to the monstrous sounds of gunfire and rockets exploding outside of the town walls. It had never been this bad before, daring to slip from the shop to take a look. You could only stare in horror at the sight you saw, Nearly forty cars and trucks, armed and armored to the teeth were firing on the town, breaking down the walls and driving through slaughtering the townsfolk. The sight was terrifying, the town guard had no chance against such forces. You see one of the Loose Screws' vehicles take a hit from a RPG and crash into a wall. Hurrying downstairs, you grab your uncle and drag him out to the car, pulling the driver out and escaping. (Moderately damaged vehicle, Loose Screws gang paint. +1 Crew member, 'Uncle Cryxis')
2. A theft, You had gotten sick of it. Working in your Uncle's shop, the unbearable attitudes of the mechanics.having so little coin to your name that it was nearly impossible for you to etch out a living for yourself. You just couldn't stand the monotony of your life anymore, so when the chance came to escape it. You took it. A ganger dropped by one day and left his car behind for repairs. Once the mechanics finished fixing it up, you 'borrowed' the keys that night, stealing the ride and a few of the more valuable tools in the mechanic shop. Sorry uncle, you just couldn't handle it anymore. (Perfectly A-Okay vehicle, Unknown gang paint. Horrid relations with Uncle.)
3. A fight, You had been at one of the local taverns, pissing away what little coin you had on drinks when you had gotten pushed against the wall. By the town leader's rather burly son, a quick, savage tavern brawl ensued and ended with you breaking a rather hefty mug of alcohol across the back of his head. His body lay limp on the floor, blood leaking from his school as the other patrons stare on in shock. Shit, you had hurt him rather badly. You knew how ruthless the town leader could be when his family was injured. After a moment's thoughts you steal the keys from his pockets and run out of the tavern. You know where his ride was, the bastard had always bragged about how lucky he was to have such a 'slick' ride. Grabbing it, your about to pull out of the town when your stopped by a cloaked figure, your offered several hundred coin for a ride to a different town. You accept it and take off. (Perfectly A-Okay vehicle, heavily modified. +1 Temp. Crew Member, 'Cloaked Stranger'. Bad Relations with Town Eden.)
1. Muscle car,a powerful engine and small frame make it a easy 'dog-fighter'. However, it doesn't have much in the way of room for weapons and cargo. It also tends to be lightly armored. 18/70 armor, 120 bulk. Standard street tires. Two front, rear weapon mounts. One left and right mount.
2. Pick-up truck, easy to flip on the sand dunes, however the pick-up truck carries a lot of room for storage and it's suspension and powerful engine allow it to mount heavier weapons and armor. 25/100 armor, 180 bulk. Comes with off-road tires. Three front weapon mounts. Two left and right weapon mounts. No rear mounts.
4. Van, very stable and can mount the heaviest of weapons and carry the most armor out of the three available vehicles. However, it's engine is sub-par at best and it will take a immense effort to get this vehicle going very fast. 30/120 armor, 240 bulk. Standard street tires. Three front weapon mounts. Two left and right mounts. Three rear weapon mounts.
Armor, Every vehicle in the game, has a certain armor rating. For example, 20/100. That means each side of the can at max, have 20 armor present on that side. The total amount of armor for the six sides of the vehicle is 100. Hence 20/100. Every vehicle in the game, unless stated otherwise has six sides to it. Front, Left, Right, Rear, Bottom and Top.
Crew, are rather obviously the people you have hired or convinced to help you crew your vehicles. Each crew-member can man one gun and only one gun at a time. The driver is allowed to man a front mounted or rear mounted gun as well. Crew perform various tasks inside of the car and outside of it. Each crew member assigned to a vehicle allows it to take less maintenance time to continue functioning properly in the desert.
Bulk, happens to be the amount of total room available on the vehicle. Every point of armor takes up one point of bulk. Weapons take up varying amounts depending on their type, weight and ammunition required as well as any reloads. Crew members not in seats will take up twenty bulk each.
Modifications, are dozen of small or not so small changes done to how a vehicle handles. Such modifications usually require a rather high mechanics skill roll. Basically, consider it engine tweaking and other such small things to improve the performances of a vehicle. The greater the improvement, the harder the roll will be.
