Eileen Siar was a big shock, they're solidly SNP and were expected to be heavy yes.

Though oddly enough, even though the Yes camp lost the Isles, the result narrowed the gap for them. They were down about 60-40 overall before the Isles reported in, and down 58-42 after.



EDIT: Pound is up to a 2-year high against the Euro in currency trading. Obviously this was all a well-orchestrated currency manipulation scheme.

Yes, but I don't see electoral results being hugely different in other places, even ones with much larger populations. This isn't a red state/blue state paradigm.


EDIT: Assuming that "No" wins the day, two questions:
1. How soon could the SNP push for another referendum?
2. What would be the fallout if Parliament doesn't deliver on devolution, given that there's already pushback against it from the Tories?

Yaaay voting-time. Order is good, but crisis is fun. I know all the sources I've read show the US political system vaguely concerned about the issue (usually the feeling immediately following "There's a referendum?"), so I'm coming here for a slightly faster result on things.


Oh yes, usually losing a vote on something like this is fairly damaging (to say the least). It's hard to say how long, but I don't quite expect another for a while.

I suspect they'll start going on about how another ballot should be held because this one is clearly wrong or was bought or something...

I would think that would be a poor decision. Sour grapes.

If, however, a year from now the much vaunted Tory-Labour-LibDem promise of new devolution powers don't look to be going anywhere, they'd have a good grievance to make the case with. I guess I'm just wondering if there's a legal/procedural barrier to when they could push another referendum. Maybe after the next major elections, if the SNP remains in power?

If the margin continues to hold around 13-14 thousand, then a strong showing in Glasgow could be a big deal. And unofficial comments seem to indicate that the Yes campaign believes they've won Glasgow.
