So, does anyone else think that David Cameron has committed political suicide over this?
I keep hearing his name despite not caring about him, which for politicians is usually a Bad Thing. I suspect this isn't really going to send him anywhere he wasn't already going, but I guess that does depend on who hates/likes him any why, and what the results of the vote are.

David Cameron is the Prime Minister and thinks he's Wintson Churchill, but people only know him as a political guy with stupid ideas. Cameron is to crushing political failure what Tony Blair is to horrible political bullshit.

The prime minister the majority voted against.
Also who is really really awful at being likeable. The entire no campaign was a fucking mess.

Yeah it's weird, you would have thought that with the success of the Olympics you could build a positive case for the union.  But no, what we get are suicidal threats and apocalyptic nonsense.

While I admit, I primarily support Scottish independence because I want to simplify what to call the national union in the British Isles to just the United Kingdom (Of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland), you still have yet another supporter to your cause in the name of FREEDOM.

Oh, and self determination. and in general messing with the English, who always have it coming.

With perfect timing, Clickhole considers the costs and benefits of sending freedom.

Is that a satire thing similar to The Onion? I see a link to it on their page though.

In any case, my family has some Scottish blood, at least on my moms side, don't know about my dads side and the last name is connected with one of the Scottish clans, forget which one atm though.

Yeah it's weird, you would think that with years to plan this the Yes crowd could make a positive case for independence.  But no, what we get are inane strawmen about the No crowd.

One side of the family is Irish, the other Scottish. 4th generation here, but it's still a big deal amongst the folks.

The Scots don't really need to have the official sanction of a country to use their currency. I mean, they could use the Pound the way the Panamanians use the USD, or the Euro, or even the USD itself. They'd have some minor issues with control over inflation and so on, but then the general policy of pretty much every country these days is a variation of "Create enough new currency to hit ~2% yearly inflation, adjust slightly depending on economic strength" so it isn't like they'd be likely to do anything radical with currency independence that they wouldn't otherwise.

Alternatively, they could simply not declare anything legal tender and let Scots use whatever they wanted as currency, which would work just fine too with the benefit of preventing the Scottish economy from being hammered as hard by foreign currency devaluation. The only problem would be collecting taxes, which could be solved pretty easily if needed.

So, what problems do they face striking out on their own? So far we've got:
-Deciding on currency
-Setting up a border, all those people who got jobs that rely on hassle-free travel between England and Scotland.
-Redoing their economic regulations
-All those British ICBMs they won't want stationed there

-Export industries facing menu cost uncertainty
-Higher debt service costs
-Reduction of economies of scale of labor markets
-Loss of transfer payments
-Loss of financial backstop from UK
-Relocation of some financial industries because the financial service sector would be too large for an independent Scotland
-Relocation of some export industries that dont want to face menu cost uncertainty and worse credit markets
-Almost certain to not be in current account balance
-A government founded by people utterly blase about all of the above

Well that's all I have off the top of my head.
