yes. queens are bigger than wasps and their chitin is meteoric iron hard. soldier chitin is iron hard, drone and worker is copper hard

i made two handed weapons a bit more expensive, so if that was your problem, it was intentional. since shields are OP (wasps can equip 3 of them and a weapon), you can't create them. you have to find them through sieges

I've encountered a weird behavior with equipment.
This is what is happening with my enforcer: I wanted to create for him, since he's the best wrestler, a pair of organic talons. I've succesfully created the growing weapon, managed to wait a month and then butchered it, but now it sits in my butcher and military screen cannot see it, while manager and stock menu could list it.
i believe the problem is that i did not gave them a METAL token, so as far as dorf fortress is concerned, it's just some weird inorganic, like marble or clay. i'll add it and see what happens.
Also, an update for the grower screen.
Now that I have souls it seems that I've unlocked the scythe, while I cannot make a 4 months axe or pick.
What are the reagents for each task? I thought they were the same for each quality step, but now I'm not sure.
for the 2 month weapons:

yes. pasture a larva and a slave in the workshop.

Red wasps created, but there is a bad behavior here: no visible in animal Z page, while visible in Unit list and in Pen/Pasture animal list.
i don't know how (or if i even can) fix this. they can be pastured, however, and you can still butcher them through v-p-s
Also, I saw that in the craftsman's workshop (btw, we should change those names in craftswasp etc) you can make armor out of bone, aside from boots or similar feet equip. Why leave the feet alone?
we would change them if we could, but the workshop names are hardcoded. and i fixed the boots and feet thing. it seems waspen armor was missing a few tokens.
Maybe replace "Grow an organic X" with "Grow bio X" ? Makes it easier to read ingame, with long texts being cut off and all.

I just lost hours of gameplay because light ran out. I play without autosaves since those corrupted a game of mine, and since I've never played with it.
I am so mad I could quit playing for a while. I lost my queen, I lost years of playing, I lost half my hive design. Even had luck with merchants, encountered a kobold trader, had a fight with an elven ambush. I had just coated my captain of the guards with a mithril sting, and after that I was gonna smelt all that shitty elven stuff into other mithril bars. To coat the rest of my initial-but-violent militia.
Anyway, a problem never changed for me: butchered organic weapons are unequippable.

organic weapons are not, in fact, uneqquippable, you just can't store them or choose them through the military screen. but you can, for example, appoint scythes to a unit, and if you don't have metal scythes, they'll go and pick up your organic scythes. i'll fix this for good in the next update. thank you for your feedback, it will help us a lot.
