Can't we use the warpstone pool from the dwarfs for spawning creatures?

sure, but not another variant of "giant insect". we have seven huge war insects already (though we seem to be missing beetles strangely). any suggestions?

maggot you say... heydude suggested earlier making larvae mutate through warpstone and create new waspen subspecies. that sounds as a neat idea the more i think of it, but we already have mutants, so how about this: you take a larva to a warpstone pool (or something, we'll think about the workshop name later) and, using warpstone, make it transform into creatures such as this after some months, instead of biting someone and making a new wasp. that will add a new array of war beasts plus it will provide an alternative for overpopulated hives other than mass butchering. plus wasps lack small war animals. and we can always make the warpstone ammo too, more weapon options are always nice. how does that sound?

Anyways, I was thinking about you earlier perks idea for the warpstone and I got some ideas.

Spoiler: ideas (click to show/hide)

Those are all of the ideas I have for now. You don't actually choose the upgrades, you run the reaction and hope you get lucky.

What mutants do we have cause I can't remember them, i can only think of the Praetorian and the abherrant.

EndoSkeleton: The wasp has an endoskeleton and an exoskeleton making it harder to kill, Also the exoskeleton no longer has the structural tag meaning that in order to disable a joint you have to break through the exoskeleton and then break the endoskeleton to disable it. It will be another caste

waspen soldiers are hard enough to kill as it is ( i take it the caste was meant to be used on soldiers, right?). in order to balance it, we should also weaken the exoskeleton in this caste. still harder than copper, but having iron tier exoskeleton, and armor and iron skeleton sounds too much

Last Stand: After the wasp has it's head chopped off, it will still survive and activate a lethal bleeding syndrome on itself, it will then try to fight one last stand. It also cannot be reanimated by evil biomes. (if that's possible to do)

it kind of reminds me the older idea about the wasp continuing to fight without a head. i found trying to implement it rather troublesome, can we leave this one out?

Worm anatomy: Wasps have a bad habit of getting their limbs chopped off. Now fear no longer, when a limb gets chopped off the wasp reanimates it and it now has another ally to aid it in the fight. It is also bloodless (at the current moment I'm wondering when should the wasp be finally killed, just destroy the head?)

bloodless + endless regeneration sounds extremely overpowered (almost unkillable). however giving the wasps an interaction to close their wounds once per 3 months or something instead, would be useful and more balanced

Monstrous transformation: The wasp transforms into a random insectoid nightmare. It will be treated as a pet in-game

so, a chance to transform into an abomination like the ones summoned by the Shrine? sounds neat, but it should be rare.

Strange Eggs: the wasp will demand a nestbox and begin to lay some stuff, which will be used for...... something[/spoiler]

how about we make a new caste called "insect infested" which lays "eggs" that can be used to summon smaller waspen insects? the caste will be useless for anything else and will have a short lifespan, but hey! free pets.

What mutants do we have cause I can't remember them, i can only think of the Praetorian and the abherrant.

those are the ones. one represents maddened and mutated soldiers, the other workers and drones.

I actually wanted it to be usable on all wasps, maybe we should make it a normal bone skeleton instead?

Where did you get endless regeneration from, I was thinking more like this

There would be many different types of abominations, some mediocre some powerful. (no feral ones though) I was inspired by the Altered in Einsteinian roulette.

agreed, might be the source of hive thralls

The mutant variety is a bit small so I don't feel bad about adding a few more.

Also I think it's been 3 days now, we need to make our final decision soon.

sounds better.

so basically wasps raising their own body parts like necromancers. could be interesting. but non bleeding is too powerful.

so, various giant insects with hardened carapace?

agreed, might be the source of hive thralls

the hive thralls already have their reactions completed and tested, don't worry about that. after all, they are supposed to be red wasp driven zombies, wouldn't make sense for them to come from eggs.

The mutant variety is a bit small so I don't feel bad about adding a few more.

well, that's what we're talking about

Also I think it's been 3 days now, we need to make our final decision soon.

the two options are pretty close, but the "make your own queen" is two three votes ahead(why do stuff always seem to happen exactly when i'm writing a reply?). let's stick with that for now, the reproduction system must be finalized, the warpstone brainstorming must end somewhere and there are some other stuff to be done, mainly graphics. if it's proven to be impractical, we'll give the "have a queen start on embark" a try. it's not even that big of a difference, both are supposed to be free and one use only anyway.

How about we have tech trees like dwarfs, parasiting, mutagen, some type of magic/organic machines. Also will we do religion because that could open some things up.

well, we have organic weapons. you take some meat, leather (and if you want a more potent weapon add souls and essences to the mix), you leave the horrific sack of flesh you've spawned for a while, you butcher it when it's ready (the game will notify you) and you have your own, metal free weapon. good stuff too, the best ones are as good or better than steel, while being a lot lighter. as for the religion, we have the Shrine To The Depts

well to be fair the warpstone stuff is more of a beta thing. The only thing that is truly left is finishing the graphics, for now. (the reproduction is mostly finalized)
