well, there must be a pool of possible creatures to draw. we can't just put every single animal as a possibility. if by the above posts you mean splint's post, the praetorian and the aberrant look like good candidates for the pool. and then it could also summon random waspen pets, and some of the most notorious vanilla insects, like Giant Desert Scorpion, or GCS.

and we need to playtest. i suspect most of the waspen stuff are imbalanced, especially the animals.

Just so i can see how effective they are against the invaders that ALWAYS come before i'm ready. Is there any way to stop the coming so early? my last fort was saved by a succubis carvan

yup, modifying the entity files. you want me to do that for you? of course, we can't do that in the actual alpha, but then again wasps can fortify themselves so quickly that they don't really need to. that's where summoning extra pets may come in handy, by the way :)

once it gets integrated. Once the building for the animal summoning is done, I think it's safe to call an alpha release and integration with MW. maybe a few bug fixes before release.

How are the sprites going?

i agree that we have completed most of the stuff, but there's also the reproduction system. and then we have to also make sprites for the animals, but we'll deal with it in due time. i think the full integration will have to wait,however, until Meph releases a new version (like it happened with the succubi) and until we ran a reasonable number of test forts and arena tests and we can safely say that the features work and the wasps are balanced.

You know, invaders are based on wealth, mostly, which means that the more you take on the embark, the earlier they will come too, and with that much, you might even get a big siege as soon as the first season.

Don't expect an integrated release into the main mod when you're on the first day that the hive is playable.  You probably want to plan on making it drop-in compatible until it's something more like a late beta, gameplay mechanics tested and trouble-shot, graphics complete, uniqueness/fun/balance level demonstrated over a decent number of test fortresses to be up to an appropriate threshold. 

Meph doesn't need to start sharing responsibility for it yet until he knows it's stable and that some people are going to enjoy it (and it's not going to break anything that affects the other races, or introduce an inappropriate amount of material clutter, or any of the other things he has to worry about as the integrator), and honestly you guys probably don't need all ~10000 or whatever it is of MDF players inundating you with feedback yet.

you know,there's a thing that bugs me and would like to discuss:

do we really need the podium and the torture chambers? i admit, part of it is because personally i am not a fan of drawing sieges/ caravans (except for the humans and only because it's their thing), but this variant looks really exploitable in late game. a 200 dwarfbucks pet that breeds quickly and doesn't graze in exchange for a siege or a caravan of your choosing? it looks both too easy and out of place.

i would like to note,however, that the "slave pets" themselves aren't that bad. it suggests that wasps view humanoid mammals as we view cattle (which is disturbing, but not necessarily in a bad way) and we could find several non exploitable uses to them:

make them an easy target for the larvae (it would make no sense for the wasps to throw the larvae at a dangerous opponent rather than a slave), use them as live bait for the summoned creatures, shorten the age they mature and make them parts of the meat and leather industry...

Personally I don't care about them too much, but we still need to wait for what insanegame says.

Anyways what I wanted to talk about, while arena testing I noticed this huge bug with the drones. Okay so pretty much what happend is that the drone seems to have multiple heads multiple torsoes, way too many arms and feet and a stinger. This seems to only happen with drones for some reason

Also it seems that all of the types don't have lungs. Which makes me curious why don't they suffocate to death then?

hmmm, i've dealt with this bug before, but i can't remember how i fixed it. i'll see what i can do

EDIT: ok, that was easy. for the record, what was causing the bug was the fact that the drone essentially had two bodies: one in

   [SELECT_CASTE:ALL]
      [BODY:HUMANOID_4ARMS:TAIL:STINGER:2EYES:HEART:GUTS:OUTERBRAIN:BRAIN:MOUTH]

and then again in

   [SELECT_CASTE:DRONE]

ok, Hive Caller is a thing now! i merged it with the Insect Hive which only had one reaction. you can use it to obtain relatively cheap pets, but beware: there are bad things in the tunnels from where you call your animals, and every time you run the reaction you risk drawing their attention. always be ready for battle or evacuation every time you use it.

I actually agree with you on the siege/caravan callers, maybe have an infectory where a pastured slave gets a syndrome that eventually turns them into a wasp. I had observed that there was a bug where the script to kill them and draw sieges/caravans didn't work properly. thinking back and forward, this is something that would be nice to implement SOME WAY, but not this way
