Tell everyone to focus fire on brutes. Forget about the rest.

You are unable to find brutes in the horde of retreating zed

Be put to sleep, try to keep my mind blank so whatever is in charge won't notice me.

you awaken with a third person view of your brute
you hear the voice, ¨You can not hide¨ whisper
the brute is looking at a horde of fellow zed charging up the hill away from the city

Kyle approaches the stairway.

You walk up to the entrance and notice that it is pitch black past the first three steps
you have a flashlight in your pocket

Some of the scouts find ropes and/or ladders. The rest keep firing on the zombies. Castle refills their ammo from the other scouts' supplies and then goes over the fortifications and follows the zombies while shooting them. If they need to retreat, the scouts will just lower the ladders/ropes and Castle'll climb over.

You follow the retreating zed out to the city borders where the scouts stop
Zed leaves behind a small horde that sacrifices itself as a distraction as the entirty flees into the hills

About how many zombies are in this small horde? Can we feasibly take them on in melee?

There are about 15, not too hard to melee them but they are charging directly towards you and halt your advance

You see a door at the flat between the flight of stairs you are on and the next one
the door has  a glowing red sign over it

You can tell the door is unlocked but do not open it yet.

Shoot about five of them and then get into melee. If it looks like they'll surround us we'll get into a back-to-back formation.

The rest of the horde has disappeared into the hills.
