" You made it out here on your own, should have made yourself known earlier. Breaking off a squad when I'm heading into battle is not an option and team 1 is preparing a defensive position so I can't spare any of them to come and get you. "

((Max was the sniper. Sam was the melee guy.))

Everyone in Castle is made to run the course until they are used to it. If zombies were to overrun the city then the only safe place would be the rooftops.

(( Don't forget they can climb. Rooftops won't be safe for long. ))

((They can't climb as well as people, I think. Only a few zombies were up in the trees, after all. It would still be safer than the ground in any case.))

(( True, but in a horde of tens of thousands if only 1% manage to climb that's 1000+. The only real safe position I can think of is the HQ because we can collapse every staircase from the ground to second floor.

Human or zombie you can't climb air. ))

((Hey, 1,000 zombies up in the rooftops is better than 100,000 in the streets. That'll mean that roof-top parkour would multiply our chances of survival by 100 if HQ was overrun! Congrats on that self-defeated argument. 8)))

((We have plenty of ammo, and we can always resort to melee weapons if we have to. As for food and water, zombies can be a decent supply of both so long as one knows how to drain blood from a corpse. All that's assuming the objective isn't to run to the other side of the city and escape.))

(( The ammo is in the vehicles or inside the buildings, not much use if we're stuck on the roofs and if you start eating zombie then you'll be dead inside a day anyway because eating rotting flesh will kill you. ))

((Actually, Frank always carries around a duffel bag full of ammo, and each individual member carries a lot of ammo on them anyways. Since (nearly) everyone in Castle just did some freerunning on rooftops with no problem with all that equipment I expect encumberment to not be a problem either. Again, even if ammo does run out, each member of Castle is good with melee weapons.
As for food, well, Brute flesh doesn't look too rotten to me. Besides, the city isn't that big that it'll take days to cross via rooftop so food and water won't really be a big of a problem as you might think. In the case of an overrun city the point is to either nuke it while you're there or GTFO - not survive it until the horde leaves.))

(( But if the horde over runs it then we're not getting out. You get to the edge of town and all you've got is more zombies surrounding you. They have more then enough to completely cut us off so we have nowhere to run and you can't run roof to roof all the way to sanctuary.
The vehicles are a no go because if we're over run we'd be eaten alive trying to get into them.
Escape isn't going to be an option for us if they get through and that's assuming they don't just surround us before they attack.

A duffel bag can hold a lot of ammo but not nearly enough. Even with every one of our men carrying one we'd still run out of ammo before we kill them all and every time we're close enough to go melee they're close enough to hurt us as well and we're going to be spread out over a large area, most of the scouts and guards aren't melee trained or well equipped so they wouldn't hold out for very long in that situation and no matter how good Castle might be 4 against 4000 your going to lose.

I have 43 including me and this surgeon and we're a lot better equipped and trained and our odds of winning that would be low even if we unload on them with everything we've got and winning without losses would be impossible.
Plus we get tired, they don't. Running roof to roof now while your rested and well fed is fine, doing it after who knows how long in constant combat under massive stress with little or no time for food or rest is something else entirely.

Castle escaping while your entire command is killed isn't particularly a victory. ))

((Peh! I bet Castle can go at least an entire day (not including night) doing nothing but killing zombies before collapsing from exhaustion! I'm not talking gun-shooting either, I'm talking straight up melee with swords, knives, and fighting sticks. Even if that is BS, they should at least be able to crowd-run their way back to Sanctuary easily enough, and that's assuming the horde is unending. Quick question: humans run faster than zombies, right?))

(( Nope sorry, in my dreams I was able to run at human speeds or close to it and crowd-running won't work against these zombies because the brutes are intelligent and control the zombies. They will grab you and eat you alive you can't just run through and shove them over.

When I was expanding my horde the zombies closed and secured the doors and covered the windows to conceal us.

Also having the energy won't make a difference, they can come at you in thousands at once even if the 4 of you are the fastest people alive you couldn't kill them fast enough to stop them swamping you in melee and judging from what I've seen of standard peoples shooting ability in this the scouts and guards won't be doing much to help unless we can seriously bottle neck the attack.

Which is why I plan to collapse buildings to force them into a very very low number of narrow paths.  ))

((Crowd-running isn't the art of running through crowds - it's the art of running on crowds. Crowd-surfing is surfing on top of crowds and crowd-running is running by using people's heads/shoulders/other as stepping stones. Which reminds me.....))

The scouts are told to set up a crowd-running course using mannequins and other things that can simulate people.
