Refugees of Morgana: A Sci-fi RTD

Refugees of Morgana

The Cenric Empire was once great and powerful according to the historians. Even as close to a hundred and fifty years ago, the Cenric Empire controlled most of the Alefian human planets, and could destroy Svingar’s battle fleets with ease. But now the empire is crumbling, with civil war, corruption, and renewed assaults by the alien Shar’Drei as the cause. Eight months ago, Emperor Winton the Brave, agreed by most in the empire to the best ruler in recent history, was assassinated. Winton'’s heir now sits on the throne, but civil war has returned to the empire.
Until now, Morgana was a peaceful prosperous planet, affected only by occasional pirates or Shar’Drei raiding parties. But after Winton’s death, an ambitious general named Mordred had his troops declare him emperor, and Morgana became his main stronghold to fight against the rest of the emperor. As a result, a large imperial army has attacked Morgana, and much of planet will likely be destroyed in the struggle.
For one reason or another, you are currently in Doferum starport. Are you a citizen or a deserting soldier, or someone important trying to flee the planet? Or are you a soldier in Mordred’s army waiting to board a transport to a battle zone? Or are you something else entirely?

Name: Sgt. LeBeefe Rexington

Gender: Male

Age: 26

Backstory: "to triumph over one's fears, one must face them directly", so went common wisdom around LeBeefe's time. And so he did. He was terrified of heights, and so he took up recreational climbing. The mere idea of Shar'Drei being present somewhere in the universe mortified him, and so he studied their language and culture. He hated loud noises and mechanisms, and so he decided to learn the operation of artillery. And he feels intimidated by numbers, so he took extra physics and mathematics courses at his military academy.

It was only after the gravely misspent youth on Morgana that resulted that he properly realized that none of this worked in the slightest, and that he is still just as afraid of each individual thing he dislikes as before. Indeed, with education his fears have only gotten more informed by solid facts, and empowered by close proximity to their causes. And now, as he has been drafted to the cause of Good King Mordred, Sergeant LeBeefe Rexington finds himself in a bit of sticky wicket, which is to say in the throes of an emerging fear of utter obliteration that seems to be on the verge of driving him to desertion at the moment.

Descriptive features: bionically-corrected eyes to compensate for relatively poor eyesight, a nose both large and aquiline, a slight face, a wide mouth and a bronze skin tone. Wears one of Good King Mordred's forces' characteristic uniforms. Possesses a wiry frame and narrow shoulders, and would be a bit lanky if not for the military's efforts at filling him out with muscle. Pronounces all his Rs in a rolling manner.

Skills: well-educated on Shar'Drei culture and language, skilled climber, adept artilleryman, able at applied mathematics.

Weaknesses: pathologically afraid of Shar'Drei, terrified of heights, frightened and irritated by loud noises, greatly put off by complexity.

Name: Oskar "Ox" Kohler
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Backstory: Oskar grew up on this planet. His family wasn't rich by any means of the imagination, but they got by. He's worked in the heavy industrial zones of the planet, from moving heavy cargo to operating industrial exosuits. In one particular accident involving a cutting laser he lost his right arm and had to have it replaced by a metallic looking robotic prostethic. He wasn't able to afford any kind of fancy fake skin, but he doesn't let his metal arm bother him much. Known as Ox to his coworkers for his size, he is usually quite amiable.

After the traitor general made his coup of the planet, Oskar has been trying to get off of this rock. He is, after all, a loyal citizen of the true empire. If only escaping this place didn't involve getting on a spaceship, Oskar has never been too fond of getting inside of flying deathtraps.
Descriptive features: Tall, Muscled, bald head. One arm replaced with robotic prostethic after work accident.
Skills: Ground vehicles (exosuits, trucks, tanks, forklifts. So long as it don't fly), Big weapons fanatic (From shotguns to explosives to industrial tools. If it's big and makes lots of noise, he's all over it.), Experienced mechanic (Industrial background + prostetic maintance.)
Weaknesses: No finesse (Can't use the finer weapons well. Sniper rifles, teeny tiny pistols, smg's and the like. Aiming is for wusses), Fear of flying, Loud (Whispering and sneaking is simply beyond him.)

Fairly serious. At some point 5 years ago I started to slowly develop a scenario for what would happen in the future, following a zombie-like apocalypse, and most of it fairly serious, so I'll try to continue that vein.

Name: Landeval MacSwain
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Backstory: Landeval was once a medical student on Morgana, until his school was destroyed in Mordred's initial conquest of the planet. While not legally able to call himself a doctor, he's become a back-alley surgeon of sorts, using his medical skills (AKA three and a half days of med school) to patch up anyone who can pay. He's pretty excited about the upcoming battle, due to the influx of customers that it will bring him.
Descriptive features: Tall and skinny, with thick-rimmed glasses and a head of messy blonde hair. Usually wearing a labcoat, which is usually stained with blood.
Skills:
Like a doctor, but not (+1 to healing rolls)
Aspiring business minor (+1 to working out deals)
Weaknesses:
Student, not a soldier (-1 to acts of bravery)
My glasses! (-1 to all rolls when without his glasses)

Name: Bronn A'acal
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Backstory: Bronn is a young soldier, hailing from a agri-clan dwelling in the wind swept plainlands of the western continents. He never had much use for Kings or royalty, but found his calling in the militia, defending the border towns against bandits and pirates, both from above and below. A crumbling Empire had little blood and treasure to spend defending his homelands, far from any great strategic resources, and they were forced to defend themselves. When Mordred marched and Winston fell, he was one of the men who fell behind Mordreds banner as his people gave fealty to the new order, believing the One True Kings promises of peace and prosperity...his skills lent him well to joining the raiding parties as a scout and cavalryman, though he has yet to see his first major battle. He serves under one Lady Commander Kara-dok at the moment, and believes firmly in her command-and their cause, to bring order to an Empire long bereft of it.
Descriptive features: A tall and handsome young man with dark brown hair, cut to his strong looking shoulders, braced by a kind looking face, lit by light green eyes. He usually wears the intricately painted leathers of his homeland casually, but is often in one of Mordereds army uniforms, as of late.
Skills:
Riding (Bronn is a young buck with a natural gift for driving small, swift vehicles with finesse and daring-from Wasp-packs, to Hovercycles to Horses. He's used to fighting with mobility, and does not like fighting on his own two feet if he can help it.)
Weaknesses:
Young Fool (Bronn is a young man, easy to trick, easy to bluff or seduce, and tends to believe what people tell him at face value. He is easily intimidated and cowed by those he perceives are more experienced than he, and lacks true initiative borne of experience. All the same, his bravado is easy to stoke and he will take risks readily, for a bit of praise.)

Turn 0: Doferum Starport

Doferum starport was only the fifth largest starport on Morgana, serving the populated portion of the south western continent. And it was crowded. Merchants, civilians, and military men were all crowded into a space that wasn’t designed to handle it all.

Lebeefe was nervous. The loudness of the space port irritated him. He was waiting in an area of the port for the ship that would pick up his artillery unit and would arrive in (5) a few minutes. Now he just needed to find something to do until then. There were some open shops, vending machines, and other people to talk to.

Thomas was ready to get off the planet. (6) He’d brought three giant bags of his stuff with him, and was using a luggage cart to carry them around. Now he just needed to get on board a ship that would take him.

Ox was (1) completely broke. All his stuff was in his house, which had been burned down when his father decided to join Winton II against Mordred. Ox had managed to get to Doferum starport from his work, and now needed to find a ship that would take a broke mechanic with nothing to his name but a prosthetic arm.

Landeval had (4) a bunch of medical equipment with him, prepared to treat anyone who needed it. Right now he just had to figure out where he would get the most business treating people. In the middle of the civilian area, between the military and civilian areas, or should he go to one of the main entrances to the space port?

Bronn followed his company as they marched (5) across the tarmac to a small scout ship. They had been briefed on their mission. As soon as the Imperial troop ships would likely land west of the populated areas and attempt to march towards the city. It was his company’s duty to harass the Imperial armies until Mordred’s main forces could make it back to Morgana and give battle. The soldiers arrived at the ship, and Bronn had to decide what weapons he would want to use. Should he use a short-range plasma rifle (+1 at short range, -1 at long range, good against standard armor, stun option), a midrange conventional rifle (no bonuses, good against reflective armor), or go with an explosive launcher (fires sticky explosives at midrange, low ammo, slight danger of being caught in the explosion)?
