"Uh....hello? Did something happen?" the boy asks cautiosly, unsure as to the potential hostility of this new...NPC?

The figure doesn't seem to notice this, looking rather preoccupied with its crying.

Take a closer look at the paraphernalia as I circle from a distance to get a better view of the figure and what it's crying over.

You approach the nearest table, which seems covered mainly in oddly-shaped metal rods, gears, and sharp instruments. However, now the figure seems to have noticed you, and turns around with a clinking sound. You see what looks like the barrel of a firearm poke out from beneath the garment draping its form, and it says, in an implacable old-timey accent, "Who disturbs me? How did you get in?"

"I said hello. You didn't hear me. The door was unlocked. And my name is...eh, call me Rolep. You probably don't know me.  Did something happen? Would I be any help? And, uh, can you not point a gun at me please? Please?"

[WillowLuman]

"Why have you come here? Can you not tell I did not wish to be disturbed?" Then the figure seems to relax, with further clinking sounds, withdrawing the gun beneath its garment. "My dear Noraline..." it turns its hat towards the oblong box in the center of the room, which seems to be full of opaque fluid, and has cables of some kind running up its sides from the floor and into it. "I tried so hard to restore her."

"I-I really couldn't...I'm sorry....may I ask what happened?"

Rolepgeek looks sympathetic. He always had been a sucker for someone sad.

"My poor Noraline... I lost her... there was nothing I could do. I've been trying to rebuild her. Yes, I've come so close! But alas, she needs a source of energy powerful enough to bring her to life again, and I know of no such thing. All is there, but she lacks a heart..."

[Rolepgeek]

"A heart and an energy source, and you could, uh, restore her? What if I tried to help? There's a lot of stuff in these rooms. The last one had some sort of static elemental. It might have returned if I go back..."

[WillowLuman]

"If you are here, then the keeper must be dead. The heart, the source, they are one and the same... I use heart figuratively. Some engine to give her life, some power that can make her move again. Do you know of such a thing?"

[Rolepgeek]

"Unless this thing on my wrist can provide enough, I don't believe so. But how about this. I will make finding a power source for you my quest. I will search every room I come across for one, until I find one that might be suitable, and then I'll come over to you and show you and you'll probably tell me it's not good enough. Then we'll repeat until I find that is good enough. That sound good to you?"

The figures sags. "If you can find me a suitable power source, then I suppose I should help you out. Very well then."
