Rolep stands as far from it as possible, and pokes it with his sword.

If it does nothing, he tries to get the lid open. Again with his sword.

Fucking mimics.
The chest does not respond to poking either time, though he can't open it with his sword due to the (unlocked) latch.

Wait what type of latch

Like for use with a padlock, or just the ones that hook?

(Like the kind you could put a padlock on, but there isn't one in this case)

Then I step to the side of the chest, use the sword to flip the latch up, then, keeping it up, go back around to the front and use the sword to open it(the latch would rest on top of the flat of the sword).

I am being very hard on my sword, but I will find a whetstone at some point and make up for it.

But I ain't touchin' that thing 'til I know it's not a mimic.

Sticking the sword between the lid and the box, Rolepgeek begins to carefully pry it open, but feels a slight amount of tension in the lid, as if it was pulling against something. However, it feels like he could probably open it anyway without applying too much more force.

Rolep does it and gets prepared to stab if it turns out to be a mimic.

As he pries the lid further, overcoming the slight tension, Rolepgeek hears a loud pop! and the lid flies all the way open, followed by several small thuds around him. He feels two pinpricks, one on his face and one on his chest.

"Owfuck- Sonnuva bitch. Trap. But why wouldn't it be locked? Shit...uh...maybe the water is antidote? Or the slimes? Shit shit shit..."

Rolep pulls out the darts or needles or whatever they are, carefully tastes the water(if it's also poison, he's screwed anyway after all), before remembering he can Identify Potions.

Maybe that'll work on the water and/or whatever's left on the needles? If not, then it's probably time to go kill and eat slimes.

Otherwise he's rather screwed.

Rolepgeek finds a needle embedded shallowly in each place, but on removing them, his ability offers no insight into what poison might be on them, but feels something already, a sort of haziness in his vision. He tastes the water and finds it tastes rather dirty, like sour mud, and does not seem to help (and his ability offers little insight on that either). However, there do seem to be items in the chest.

Rolepgeek gets a bleep! from his wrist device. +1 exp

Rolep quickly checks the items in the chest, and mutters at his wristband.

If any of them are potions, he uses his ability on them. If none of them seem to be useful, he starts killing slimes.

Within, he finds two small spherical bottles with long necks, filled with an off-yellow liquid (which his abilitiy identifies as "stamina"), along side a rough paper tube of some kind with what looks like a fuse, kind of like a big firecracker, and a tied bundle of some kind of projectiles (arrows or crossbow bolts?), about a foot long.

Rolep drinks one of the stamina potions, shoves the firecracker into a pocket, tries to see if there's anything to carry the bundle either in or with, and grabs the other stamina potion with his free hand.

He then wishes he had a backpack, or knew how to counteract poison. Stamina might help, but it probably wouldn't keep it from killing him if it was a lethal toxin. He did get the EXP for the room...But the slimes had to be there for a reason. He didn't believe in auto-death trap rooms.

...

Okay, so the needles could have been avoided, but still. This was all based off RPGs, right? So...time to kill slimes.

The purple bit was probably what actually made up their nervous system...but what if making the antidote needed a living slime?

Argh. Or what if it was in the next room...well, he could probably figure that one out pretty easily.

He tries to push open the door, and looks into the next room.

The stamina potion tastes like seawater (or maybe sweat?) but makes Rolepgeek feel great, banishing the soreness and tiredness of his ordeals so far and filling him with energy. However, he can still feel the poison taking effect, currently just messing with his vision. On pushing upon the door, it begins to slide upwards with a clinkclinkclink!

Hopefully it would only mess with his vision. If it did, it would probably go away in a bit.

Or something.

Hopefully.

A the P-Geek enters the door they feel... warmer. Must be the poison working it's way through...! No, no wait, that's just the torch on the wall. Not that he needs it anyway, this mine is pretty brightly lit. Looking around reveals a couple of skeletons dotted around, as well as clay pots, what looks to be supports for bits of mine, and finally... GOLD! On the ground in front of him is a red book.
