A related question: How, if I can at all, merge power sources? If I have two water wheels, how can I make them share their power, providing 200 or whatever instead of 100 individually?

Will having them share a gear assembly work?

[Healthcare Update Thread] Personally, I can't wait for doctors to get possessed and start surgically attaching axes to champion soldier's arms.

Putting waterwheels next to each other links them I would assume you could connect through a gearbox as well.

Yes. More generally, as long as they're all connected to the same system of mechanisms, they will share power. So, for example:
- a waterwheel connected to an axle connected to another waterwheel
- two waterwheels connected via gearboxes to the same axle aseembly
- two waterwheels connected to the same pump, or to different pumps in a larger interconnected system

I've used this to power large systems with arrangements like:

code:

~WWW~WWW~WWW~
  |   |   |
~WWW~WWW~WWW~
  |   |   |
~WWW~WWW~WWW~
  *---*---*--- -> to mechanisms

This system provides 900 power when all three channels are filled, less overhead from the axles and gears.
