I have been a longtime lurker but I have finally decided to make an account. The reason I made the account is to post about this amazing game. InfernoMOO is like HellMOO, a game some of you may be familiar with, but with some key differences. There was already a HellMOO thread, but I decided to make this thread as InfernoMOO is really becoming its own game.
-- What is InfernoMOO?
InfernoMOO is a MUD, which is basically a text-based MMORPG. You enter in commands in order to do certain actions. This may sound dull, but it's actually incredibly fun, more so than most visual MMORPGs because it's not held back by graphics, and you can do pretty much whatever you want. As a result of this, it is very NSFW.
InfernoMOO takes place in a universe that can best be described as Fallout meets GTA. You can be a blade-wielding sociopath, a brainy crafter or a horribly mutated abomination who devours corpses and bleeds acid. You can rob people of their stuff at gunpoint, blow up buildings, enter a fight club beat-down and more!
The game has mostly unrestricted PvP, which keeps a high level of tension, though there are some rules against griefing ("help griefing").
This is the description from The Mud Connect:
HellMOO is a post-apocalyptic hellscape role-playing game.
It is a very challenging role-playing environment. Imagine a city filled with people who have nothing to lose, most of whom would murder you given the chance.
Now imagine that they're starving, irradiated, and angry. Add to that hideous, unthinkable abominations that are the product of irresponsible genetics research and generations of radiation poisoning and pollution. Now imagine that multinational corporations are the only organizations cuthroat enough to have come out of the collapse of civilization with any real collective power, and that there are now no restrictions on them using that power however they like.
There are so many ways to die here, and thanks to the corp's technology, you can keep coming back and experience each and every one of them.
Not even suicide can get you out of hell.
Features:
* Deep and engaging combat system
* Mutations
* Be a chud, vampire, abomination, zombie, hideous freak or stay genetically pure
* Explore a massive, varied world
* ASCII maps
* Vehicles including skateboards, planes, motorbikes and boats
* Do a variety of jobs, from being a whore, to selling crack, to taking out hostile invaders
* A large variety of questlines to take part in
--What are the differences between HellMOO and InfernoMOO?
There are a ton of differences, but here are the main ones:
* Less grinding
* Shops are always open
* More mutations
* PvP is not restricted
* Revamped gymming (no more spamming "use weight")
* Revamped chargen (just choose your stats from a list, no more confusing tag items)
* Shorter cooldowns for most jobs
* Rerolling no longer fucks you over, you keep xp from journals and jobs, but lose xp from combat and crafting
* Demuting no longer gives massive penalties, the only penalty is that you age a permanent year
* More areas
--How do I play it?
You can load up
http://inferno.optiquest.org/FMud/FMud.html to play immediately, but it's better in the long run to get a MUD client (also, the web client doesn't always work).
So get MUSHClient (
http://www.gammon.com.au/mushclient/) and connect to inferno.optiquest.org, port 7777.
--What are some good corps?
CDYN, REK and EMMIE are some good major corps. There's also GOOMBA, but it mostly consists of griefers, so be warned. To join a corp, just type who, then ask someone who isn't an n-tag in the corp, and they can probably hire you or direct you to someone who can.
--How about some guides?
http://inferno.optiquest.org/mediawiki/index.php/Getting_Started_Guide_Page_Onehttp://inferno.optiquest.org/mediawiki/index.php/Getting_Started_Guide_Page_TwoIf you have any questions, ask in this thread and I will do my best to answer. You can also page Khrom in the game, though I live in Asia, so I might not be online when you guys are. If I'm not online, just ask on newbienet ("newbie insert question here").
