Also, an early access game for $40? And an overly ambitious one with next to nothing to offer at the moment at that? Count me the hell out.

40$ for our own little sandbox without guilds, wars or sieges? Okay, f*ck them then. And f*ck their MMO too, the private servers seems to be already overrun by hordes of russian barbarians (seriously, wtf is up with russians and online games?)

Man, did people jump all over Prison Architect when they decided to make their alpha expensive?  If I recall correctly, they made it pretty pricey initially, specifically to discourage people from just grabbing it, so they wouldn't be all mad when they played their shiny, new, very definitely alpha video game and found out it wasn't awesome and complete and stable.

I heard they made it expensive because the kickstarter(?) was expensive, and they didn't want to piss off kickstarter backers by making it cheaper.

They could have given Kickstarter backers an additional copy, or something to sweeten the deal. Instead everyone has to pay a bunch of money for a version of their upcoming MMO that allows you to host your own servers but lacks some of the full features.

Just because similar games are bad doesn't mean a particular game is good, only good relative to other games. I've always loved ARMA (once Operation Flashpoint), but that's because it's pretty much the only military sandbox game with the kind of scope it has. I feel a lot of people are settling for less just because "there's nothing better out there right now" and I don't know if that's helping much. But then, what other option is there? Just don't buy stuff?

Maybe if games like this become popular someone will decide there's a market for it and make one that's really awesome. Maybe.

Yes, sad is either all pvp sandbox games turn into Bot nightmare or into PvE fluffiness.
No mind to do game if can't have that "fast cash" nowadays from game seems to be trend.
But...we will see in few years when it is done

40 USD, and frankly despite really positive reviews it's not worth it. As stated, it's in alpha right now and it's a SLOW game. So ya, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it of course, but be wary.

The Repopulation

It appears to be looking to emulate the complexity and depth of Star Wars Galaxies. It is in Alpha right now but it is only $20

Another one I have that's still super early pre-alpha is one called "Gloria Victis" which I think is trying to compete with LiF. For $10 you can play it and the actual game will be free to play with cosmetic micro transactions...but like I said...pre-alpha. GV does not stick to the complete realism (though it still requires players to make everything buildings and equipment) like LiF seems to be leaning as there will be some subtle magic like curses and blessing. The studio making it also looks to have less people working on it and a more junior studio...AKA, at least now, it is not as "pretty"

I do like the look of LiF...just...$40...for something totally not done lol. Of course with a sandbox MMO there is also that need for a good group...because they tend to be a lot more brutal than most MMOs and being alone is asking to be raped constantly

Another thing that irks me about most of these "realism MMOs" is that food is usually purely for buffs...which makes farming pretty "meh"

I would like to farm and people actually require food to eat so my farming has plenty of business besides the random alchemists. LiF does have this need to eat which is nice.

Nothing irks me more than "full player economies!" where many aspects of it are fake (IE farmers that make food that is really just optional) or NPC stores where you can buy 90% of what you need

What I was looking for is (MMO)RPG with crafting/trading/combat in medieval era. Gloria Victis tickles it quite good, but I don't think I've got $10 atm, will probably wait until it goes free.

Unless there's something else I can look at?

There is Mortal Online.

It is fantasy but medieval themed...though it has had an interesting past with lots of negative reviews...they seem to be cleaning it up a bit now so it should be better. Might want to look into it.
