Looks nice, but it will probably end like the other similar titles: Wurm, H&H, Salem.
Interesting at first in the survival/setting-up stage, awfully boring when one is estabilished.

So one has to either play as a hermit and quit out of boredom in a couple weeks or join a community and endure the drama wich inevitably happens in games with very small populations and full loot/perma-death/destruction.

Also, the combat is usually total garbage (at least in the three games I mentioned) and entirely based on equipment and amount of time spent.

I hope this one will succeed, but I highly doubt it.

I was extremely interested, and then I saw it was a MMO.
Nope, not for me. I don't like games where player-owned things remain open for everyone to grief whenever you leave, with open servers and lots of people with vested interest in griefing.
I mean if you're going to make my stuff persist, I'd rather play solo or with a handful of trusted friends. Not in a MMO server.
I'm not hardcore enough to rebuild faster than they bring it down.

Except it isn't. The MMO game is slated for next year. Play solo or on a private server with friends all you want, this is the 64 person server "Your Own" release.

No idea if it'll be worthwhile, but I've been looking into it off and on today to see if my buddy and I should pick it up. They will have official, persistent servers. Your buildings can be claimed and, I think, stay safe as long as you log in regularly. You lose skills on death and with the alignment system, extra bad dudes can lose most of them to deter baddery.

Yeah the fact that death = skill lost is pretty interesting...most MMO's don't punish griefers hardly at all...and that will make griefing a lot harder

Is that so? That changes everything!

I also realize my description sounded entirely too much like an infomercial.

Most of the dev comments had placed it around the $20-30 mark and now I see it's out at $40. From the videos I've seen, I think I'll take a pass unless new ones from this release re-sway me. It looked a bit too clunky to play for my tastes.

I've been reading that the actual gameplay turns out to be a lot like DayZ and Rust, and not much like Wurm or Mount&Blade. I've also heard that there is no single-player or co-op, despite the game being advertised as having them.

Can anyone who's played the game confirm or deny these?

How does this compare to Kingdom Deliverance?

$40 is kind of pricy for an (in their words) extreme alpha of a game that is not yet but eventually will be an MMO. I'm done with early access for the most part, anyone pick it up?

I'm in the very difficult point of deciding where a decent amount of my old gaming friends are trying it, but I balk at the $40 price tag especially for the fact its an early access game. I've been keeping tabs on it for a few months now but there's a few things which still make me concerned about the game.

I've kept tabs on this game for over 6 months, I was shocked at the price point, but at this point I wasn't backing out.

It's surprisingly good.

A lot of crashes, but a patch came out this morning that supposedly fixes these, but I haven't gotten a chance to try it yet.
My main complaint is in combat. Hit boxes are a bit wonky, and why do I lose karma for self defense?  :P

I've already got my money's worth in playtime, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

When Planetary Annihilation was in extremely early alpha, it was £60

Not $60, £60

For some reason they turned the pricing model on its head and decided early access was worth MORE than the finished product. Once it was released as 1.0, it was £30
It makes sense; it helps keep the people that whine for sake of whining away since they will bee unwilling to pay the entry cost. Then when the game is finished or better polished the price can come down and all the whiners will have less to whine about.

Except people who pay for early access have to put up with a ton of unfinished, buggy crap, and essentially act as unpaid beta-testers, and they support the developers' financially so they can DEVELOP THE DAMN THING IN THE FIRST PLACE. So lowering the price later on is just ripping off people who trusted you. And, from what I heard of PA, it's also ripping off buyers even now, because it's STILL a buggy mess.

Started playing this yesterday

Crafted flint tools
Ate cookies
Ganged up on a wolf with my friend and it almost killed us both. It was honourable and let us go with a warning after we both were knocked out.
Tried to kill a moose for two minutes. It somehow survived but it was unconcious (or maybe it went to sleep) so I call it a draw.
Found a half-constructed castle. Was ambushed there by five half-naked Russians. My friend was mercylessly murdered and I ran away.
I learned that the NW part of the island on this server was Russian territory.
Crafted more flint tools
Ate roots since I was all out of cookies

Found a spot to make a homestead with my now respawned friend. We will be dukes of this land in no time! Huzzah!

Except if you bothered to read the Early Access question-blurb thing, you'd realize that the reason they priced it at $60 was because that was the price kickstarters had to pay to get into the alpha. And as it went into beta, it dropped into the price bracket of the beta testing kickstarters. They specifically said the reason the price was so high was to not rip off those who decided to back them before everybody else.

You pretty much just defined "early access".
As I keep trying to tell people: Don't back something expecting it to improve in the future, buy it as is.
