It seems like the rockets are just so much better than  bombs it's ridiculous. Or I'm not using them right.

Bombs are quite difficult and require a couple of no-defenses attempt runs to get a good read on how they aim.

If you're good, though, you could pretty easily bomb something from above the range of anything other than drones, and those can be easily dealt with by bombing the hell out of the carrier and some rockets to off the drones.

I tried with my pad but it's just all kinds of wrong... and by that i mean the buttons kinda work but appear to be assigned at random.

Got to the second island for the first time (I died 10 times before, almost entirely due to getting too cocky.) Got a facefull of guided missile.

I love the mechanics of flight in this game - a very good mix of arcade difficulty. However, the current state of the missions themselves leaves a lot to be desired. As it is, I'm waiting for mod support / a better balance (the creator has mentioned he will soon address this).

 Of note is the creators tumblr, more frequently updated than the previous linked itch.io.

I have to say, im really excited about this one, being an ace combat fan, i would love to see whats posible with this idea, random generated islands and upgrades, i wish there was a more linear progresion as in, getting better the more you advance, but this is just starting so keeping an eye on it.

I think that's coming in an update soon. No more everything in your face at the start...

What. the. hell. Did they disable keyboard control in the new version, or am I missing some settings somewhere?

Keyboard works fine for me. Though when I died I couldn't restart by hitting the spacebar and i had to Force Quit.

That's what I said, it works fine for me. I didn't have to change anything. I put one hand on WASD and the other on the arrow keys and I was flying pretty naturally.
