Friendly goblin master?
« on: September 08, 2014, 02:30:03 pm »

I was going through the dungeons of a human castle with my elven adventurer and his buddies, and I found a goblin who wouldn't attack me. Okay, maybe she was adopted or incorporated into the culture doing world gen, that's normal enough.

But then I saw she was classified as goblin "master". That is, if I'm not mistaken, a dictator of goblins. A leader. Just chilling in a human basement.

She was a lasher and had a whip, but when I attacked her, not only the game prompted me if I was sure, but she didn't try to attack. She just ran like hell until we cut her down.

So...anyone knows what the eff happened?

Goblins in the new version love humans. Hate everyone else. Same with kobolds. It appears humans have, normally, aligned themselves with goblins and kobolds. You just pissed off a diplomat most likely, and may have accidentally caused the future death of that human kingdom. Good job.

But I was an elf, aligned with an elven civilization.

It looks like bandits (and maybe other kind of groups like goblins) relationships with non-bandits entities are very badly broken in df2014, as this "goblin master" being unbelievably friendly sounds a lot like all those friendly bandits that should have been hostile from one of my bug report :
http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=8233

I hope those group relationships will be fixed, it was working correctly in df2012 , now nothing makes really sense in groups relations in df2014 unfortunately

I've also encountered bandit groups who kill their leader (or the leader attacks the rest).

Same here. I've seen both the spontaneous lethal infighting (40.10) and the bandits who won't attack first (40.11), not even when they outnumber you and you tell them that they are bandits.

How do you tell them they are bandits? Never had that conversation option.

I used the option to spread rumor/tell about specific incident, like this:

Code: [Select]
You: Particular outlaws have been causing us much hardship.  They have a camp called Strapsnarl somewhere in The Dune of Sewers.
Abuth Sedmemoto, master: It is terrifying.
You: This must be stopped by any means at our disposal.
You: Can you tell me the way to Strapsnarl?
Abuth Sedmemoto, master: We are in Strapsnarl.

It's not as direct as calling out a night creature, but it still looks pretty funny.
