In adventure mode I killed a minotaur and no-one seems to care.

I killed a bandit ace master, everyone was flipping out and I became rather famous. I killed a dragon and a hydra in the same day? It was inevitable.

no one cares about anything in my experience, this isnt for (semi)megabeasts in particular.  I think your reputation still works fine just no one wants to give you any praise when you tell them of your exploits :\

They just don't believe you. One dragon and a hydra in the same day ? Come on, and I'm the Queen of the Elves...

Their layers were just on the other sides of a field from each other. Thank Armok that I always start with superior social awareness, it lets me start out with 12 companions. I had to make a run to the local mead hall to pick up more guys for the dragon though.

Not slaughtered your entire village, beating you to death with a priest's head in one hand, a child's head in the other? (If a village is [somehow] annoying, I crush all their heads with heads I took from a previously slaughtered village)

Sure you killed the dragon, but you lead half the town to a crispy death to do it...

I would actually find killing a veteran dwarf bandit with master on axe and defensive skills harder than killing some cyclops or a lesser megabeast. I've had almost no trouble killing cyclopses in my experiences with them.
