Another high school wrestler here.

Wrestling is extreme, though... I have no experience with real fights, but it's not the kind of exertion I would expect.  The contest is set up such that you are constantly straining your muscles against your opponent's for a prolonged period, like imagine an arm-wrestling match that lasts 6 minutes and extend that to your whole body.

This just makes it seem even more sexual. Jeez.

Some people do make it awkward...

penguinofhonor, you're silly :))

And by that, I mean go look up the various histories of Wrestling. Also, Turkey. Turkey and wrestling :P
~~It's only how far you interpret it where it may go wrong~~
Also I wonder how OP is doing ._. Thanks to this thread, I know what LARP is.
And I thought that was practice for self-defense...ahah.

Thanks to this thread, I know what LARP is.

Did you look it up, or are you just basing that off our tanget with foam weapons?  Because LARP isn't just fighting with foam weapons, though it can involve that, and fighting with foam weapons isn't necessarily LARP.

It stands for Live-Action Role-Play, and simply refers to any form of role-play that isn't restricted to sitting around a table.  Probably the most popular is Vampire: the Masquerade, where contests are resolved via paper/scissors/rock.

Thanks to this thread, I know what LARP is.
It's pretty weird IMO.

What's weird about it?

I dunno.. I guess it's weird coming from someone who's been RPing and running games on the forums every day for the past two years but it just seems.. Fake, I guess. I'm not really sure how to describe it. All I know is my feels say it feels weird and I feel uncomfortable watching it.

it feels weird

My introduction to LARP was a number of years ago when I happened upon a group of Vampire the Masquerade LARPers in costume, very insistently trying to stay in character. Sadly, the girl I ended up speaking to chickened out when I agreed to let her bite me.

Some people do make it awkward...

I went to a religious school, we weren't allowed to get more dirty then a Saturday Night Ride.

Anything is weird when people take it to extremes.

Interesting point of debate: if you're not a professional sportsman, is going down to the park and kicking a ball around LARPing?

No... Unless you are pretending to BE a professional sportsman it isn't larping.

HECK if you just had a swordfight in the park it isn't Larping either.

So long as the RP isn't in the LA there N.O. LARP. :P

So when my friend is at the park throwing a basketball around saying, ¨And Austin (fake name) dunks the ball, the crowd goes wild. *begins making fake cheering noise*¨ thats larping?

Maybe... If he's doing this with other people then definitely yes, though he probably won't want to admit it.

I'd say "yes, but that's not what most people mean when they say LARP".
