So I know how to find vampires, normally. I think I may have multiple vampires. At first, it was a legendary engraver- annoying, but I could accept his death. He was found drained of blood after a fight with a giant dingo, where a bear saved him. I figured out who the vampire was, using the fact that their name is different in game and on dwarf therapist, plus the 27 KIDS!!!  :o  So I set her up in a square of fortifications, to test it she was a vampire. She was. So I set a roof over the fortification, set up a set of walls around them, and then had her dig down and make a small farm using seeds and potash dropped in some times, emergency food supply. After she spent a month down there, all of the sudden, another person went missing- for a week. She'd been in there for a month, so she [/b]is[/b] a vampire, but that means I have a second one too. But I can't find them: no different names, no extremely old ones, no one not sleeping. Nothing to differ them from other dwarves. But I want to execute this second vampire- the dwarf he killed? An axe lord that doubled as [/b]MY LEGENDARY ARMOR SMITH[/b]!!! I'm looking for him, to make him die a very gruesome death. Maybe dropped into my new moat, to test it out. Cinnabar dropped from high overhead? Wooden spears until he's shattered to death? But I can't find him, I know there's a second one, because a cheese maker was found drained too, one of the ones who helped lock in this first vampire. Is there a DFHack line I could use to find the vampire?

If any of them are made of fire, throw stuff, run, and think non-flammable thoughts.

Therapist has an option to display Cursed dwarves in special color. This includes weredwarves and vampires.

Only downside is, the checkbox is labeled (I'm a dirty cheater). ;)

Check their past membership. If they are ex members of at least 10 different groups/fortresses, and their children are in white, as well as spouse, and/or if it says that they "appear to be the age of ***" then you've got yourself a vampire.

I just followed the wiki tips. 2 got mine found quickly
high number of skills and his kill list of 1. Killed in 417  yet he was BORN in 421!!
Hmn...a 1 man squad in leather/training sword charging the next gobbo siege
Nicely solved my problem.

I also noticed his victims were my best dwarfs, that's why I decided time for him
To go..

My first vampire hunt was pretty easy, two people got accused of the murder and one of them had about 500 relationships with people not living in the fortress...

Then dwarven justice deemed 15 days in jail was appropriate punishment for murder... I used a spike trap to fix that mistake...

I stumble upon vampires when I check a Dwarf's inventory and see that they have bone jewelry. If they kill one of my favorite Dwarves...well. I'm a very petty overseer. I once had a vampire convicted of 2 MURDERS become elected as mayor. I loved the other mayor, so I had him convicted of murders he didn't commit. 100 hammer strikes later he's in the hospital with no teeth, broken bones, an infection, and he's being refused treatment. Then the old mayor was appointed as baroness and all was well. I abandoned of boredom before I enacted the rest of my revenge.

I usually catch vampires during simple immigration control: all suspicious immigrants stay in one room until they get thirsty. Those who won't get thirsty will be the vampires, of course.

Caught vampires get the same treatment as murderers and were-infected in my forts: they are immediately drafted into Dwarven Geography Department special one-dwarf naked squads. In these squads they'll be mapping caverns or if they're really lucky, the Circus itself. It is the good life, really: lots of bracing subterranean air and all the nude wrestling of FB:s and clowns they can handle.

I found the bastard. Well, technically, a dwarf can't be a bastard, as marriage is the only way to have children. I found the vampire. I couldn't find him in my normal guys, because he had fallen into my moat and climbed onto a random ledge I made by accident. So I'm setting up a way to have a forbidden door lead to him, open to where a siege could find him, and have the goblins deal with him. I was thinking of dropping swords on him from above, or knives bought from humans, but the goblins probably will be a worse fate. Now, my other, better vampire, is happily farming away! I have about 50 plump helmets growing in there, and she's a good grower. If all dwarves in the fort are vampires, will they drain other vampires? I may turn them all into vampires. Turning into a vampire in adventure mode took my guy from struggling from against large groups to slaughtering hordes.

This sounds like a Fun idea.
Step 1. Make vampire bleed.
Step 2. Fill vampire chamber with water.
Step 3. Pump vamp water into drinking water.
Step 4. FUN

I was wondering how to do that in Fort mode!

One question: will they all eat each other? Or do vampires not eat vampires?

They don't feed on each other, and they don't die of thirst or hunger if they don't feed. I have heard that a vampire that goes too long without blood starts moving and working slower, like a dwarf with only water and no booze, so an all vamp fort without a steady food supply isn't all roses.

Sieges could be the "food" supply...
