Is human diplomat vampire any threat?
« on: September 05, 2014, 07:59:08 pm »

Is human diplomat vampire any threat to my dwarves while he waits for his meeting, hanging around, or I can safely ignore him (and his bodyguards)? I've heard vampires prefer to drink their own species, I suppose that's what his guarding ladies are really for, but who knows.

Also shouldn't his condition be hidden? I had suspicions about him when I saw his human their bracelet, but then I saw it plainly given after his name. For some reason I've never met a vampire in v.0.40.x, despite having more than two hundred dwarves. /I hoped my queen would be one, because she ascended the throne almost 150 years ago, but nope, she's just a political beast/

It's not a threat. I had a vampire outpost liaison, and it took five months for the meeting to happen, yet he never drank, whereas my vampire in fortress went once every three-four months to drink.

Don't listen to the person above, the Liason is a major threat, he will feed multiple times so keep an eye on him. I'm going to have my marksdwarves fill him with bolts from above, then pour buckets of water over him and create a well of immortality.

Here is a picture of the liason draining a farmer, i locked him in the room.

Any vampire is a threat. I've had human diplomats drain me of several dwarves while waiting for a meeting. Kill 'em!

A wooden ballista bolt through the chest should suffice.

Damn. What kind of ballista bolt would stop him for sure? Legends say that aspen stake would be necessary, but I don't have aspen. I prefer copper. Also, maybe I should test him on goblin prisoners first, maybe it's just a case of misdiagnosis and he fancies himself a vampire.

Just meet him asap and move on.  If you must incite a war,  then next year, give your baron/EL,King/w.e a far out of the way room hooked to flood w/magma or collapse.  And then wait for the predicable 'lagging behind' all diplomats do behind your ruler and lock him in.  Pull lever, prepare for possible war.

I'd kill him, just to be safe. Let no Urist McCullen live!

I don't follow, how killing my ruler would kick up a row with humans?

Anyway, I don't really want a war with the long pigs, they're my best source of iron/steel. This year they didn't come (instead goblins came - much worse source of iron) and the human diplomat came instead of dwarven caravan in autumn, apparently. So the next expected iron delivery comes next summer from the pigs.

No.

When the laision or diplomat visit your ruler they follow him from a short distance.  So when your ruler meets in his office the liaison will follow.
Then, when finished, the ruler leaves, and the there is a window where you can lock the liaison/diplomat in.  And then kill them with lava/bridge/pit/zombie/etc (okay, not zombies, its a vampire).

Or, just use a 'kobold short cut' and lock them into a shortcut path that has repeating traps.

I see. Vampire herding. Now I'm thinking about letting some of his blood and using it on captive goblins, to create a race of goblin-vampires. If I can force goblins to drink. Then to kill him.

Great, I have a bunch of these. Good for bloodletting too.
