If you just can't stomach water, I find that dropping a fairly bag of bitter or citrusy tea into a big water bottle and carrying it around gives a nice flavor after half an hour or so, with minimal caffine or tannins.  I only bother to do this on the rare occasions I have iodized water, so I can comfortably drink without waiting another hour for it to neutralize, but it would presumably work just as well for tap water.

If your tap water is bad, though, don't try to mask the flavor or buy bottled water; just get a filter.

Coffee. Delicious straight black coffee made from freshly-ground whole beans.

Tea. Black tea with a bit of brown sugar and a lemon wheel.

Coffee, tea, bier, wine. Not too much bier and wine.

Fun trivia:

"That one soda per day adds 150 calories every day. 150 calories * 365 days equals 54,750 calories each year. Since there's 3500 calories per pound, that one soda per day adds 15.64 pounds per year."

We're trying to stop drinking soda here, Lord Bucket. That's like a prime reason to start chugging it by the litre.

Not that it ever worked for me >.>

His trivia is a pretty good motivation not to drink soda.

That entirely depends on the amount of calories in your diet.

Soda isnt healthy, regardless of calorie content. If you want to gain weight, there are better ways than to consume lots of sugar.

I am actually shocked that people can drink so much flavoured stuff that they start thinking water to be bland.

Mmm, artificially sweetened drinks = 'bland' taste of water. They aren't normal sugars, too...Include the many other ingredients and chemicals and... :-\
And water always had a taste with me! .-.

...So how was the results with Vector's post there, OP?

I've known people who drink probably 3 a day just that I saw. At my father's company, for example, we kept a soda refrigerator constantly stocked with drinks for employees. The thinking was to keep the engineers caffeinated, and not everyone likes coffee. And since it would create animosity to keep exclusively the engineers caffeinated, it was free-for-all for everyone, year after year.

I suspect there were more than a few who took advantage of that to basically live their lives drinking nothing but complimentary soda. I suspect there were probably also more than a few kidney stones from it.

Maybe I just spend too much time in developing or third world countries, or at the very least, forget that other people are usually stationary with stable access to the same things, like their favourite brand of soda, all day, every day. ;)

Or other drinks for those of us who can't stand soda. Mate tea and guaraná extract in my case, all day, every day. I dread leaving south america because it'll probably mean I'll never drink them again, or at least for a cheap enough price.

Guarana you get everywhere, US, Germany, anywhere in the tropics... :) Mate tea as well, but its a bit (lot) harder to find than where you are atm.

I'm a pot-a-day coffee drinker but you will not get me to touch guarana with a ten foot pole. I had one Rip-It and everything I didn't recognize in the ingredients is now strictly verboten.
