Yes, I saw the other people telling me they don't gain skills.
Also, try lining up a tough, agile, strong elephant against a frail, clumsy, weak elephant. Tell me the results.

Well, there _were_ discussions on "training" climbing or swimming, which are skills and won't be gained by non-learners. At least attribute gain through combat _does_ work for non-learning units.

I tend to use war animals to swamp enemies, i.e. the main quality they bring is quantity. Killing or crippling part of my dog population will take away that very quality: if i'm to choose between ten average dogs and six barely-above-average dogs, my choice is clear.

Of course, twenty weakling animals would only be a speedbump for most soldiers, sending 50 rabbits to fight a bear probably won't work out... that said, RNG can be silly sometimes, but if we can find a safe way to make war animals stronger/tougher/faster, it would be beneficial

That was a bit of a terminology overlap.  I should have been more specific.  I wanted them to swim so that they would gain attributes from the exertion, and called that "swim training."  However, since swim training is already a thing, it's a bit of a misnomer, but I'm at a loss as to what else I might call it.  My intention was never to try to train their swimming skill since they cannot learn.

And while the gains will only provide a miniscule advantage, the fact that forcing animals to swim is such an easy undertaking may make the small gain worth the negligible effort.

Still, much science to play with.  Also may see about doing the popcorn room.

What Tacomagic said also applies to climbing. We are simply looking at attribute enhancement, and even if strength and agility meant little, Toughness, Endurance, Willpower, and Recuperation are pretty huge. Why? Because wounded animals don't get a hospital or any attention I am aware of.

Look at how quickly barkscorpions heal, as an example.
