D&D 4e (No players needed) The Kobold Cave
« on: September 04, 2014, 01:27:50 pm »

The wind coming from the mountains beyond the walls bears the scent of summer on it, despite winter fast approaching. The land has just recently shaken off the mantle of night, and the breeze plays with your clothes as you walk to Wrafton’s inn. Where you would have expected ice, you see instead water in the ruts of the road. Approaching Winterhaven's local inn, you push open the oaken door and enter.

A fire blazes in one corner, making the room hot, almost uncomfortable. Wooden rafters hold aloft the ceiling, and stone flags make up the floor. In one corner a group of people play dice, and some look glumly into their cups. It is too early for any real joviality, but looking around you soon see those you were looking for. A big, burly man with three others seated at his table. When your eyes rest on him, he waves you over and motions you to sit.

After you do, he speaks:

Well, my boys, you are all now here. I am Thornton, and you will soon be in my employ. But before we talk business, you should become better acquainted.

He sits back, obviously waiting on you to introduce yourself to the others.

The tiefling keeps his filter mask on and says one word before remaining back in his silence.

"Ammon..." He says, quiet but stern

His book imp sits on his shoulder, shaking its head at the silence his companion maintains.

" 'e doesn't talk much. Ya think someone with 'is powa would say mo-"

Ammon quickly grabs the imp and shoves it in his belt pouch handing on his bandolier-like belt across his chest.

"Ignore him..."

Jee wilikers, I think Highmax is near invulnerable, must have been dunked in the river styx like achilles was.
Just make sure he wears a boot.

(Right preception is a thing)
what was that little thing? Never seen that before! any ways... what is the job? How long do we got before we have to leave? And the 2 most important questions. How dangerous is this and how good is the reward?
Take a took at the people, try and figure out, classes(both class and social class) and professions. Also I would like to do an arcane check on both Ammon and Mikal.

Despite the fact he has a hood and a filter mask covering most of Ammon's, you can tell from his skin, the tail and the horns that are barely visible due to the way the hood covers them, you can tell he's a tiefling. From the look at how rough his clothing is and how minimal he is carrying from what you can see, he's just barely above being a beggar on the social status ladder. You cannot, however, see any weapons or gear on him that suggest what his profession is. The imp familiar, however, suggests he probably knows a thing or two with arcane arts. What power of the arcane, you cannot tell.

((I'll let the DM roll and describe if he sees anything, but I would like a perception to notice if I see him taking a good look at me))

Snag looks up from where he's sitting and says

"Me name is Snag"

Then looks about the room.

Oak, looking at Ammon, notices the glint of chainmail beneath his clothes, and a cylindrical object up his sleeve. Your acrana check finds nothing.
Upon looking at Mikal, you see he wears plate, has a vertical scar on his face which you barely make out because of his concealing hood, and something seems wrong with his right side arm. You believe he is human. Your arcana check reveals nothing.

Ammon notices you looking quite openly at him.

As introductions are over, Thornton grins and begins to speak again.

My lands, as I am sure you know, are wide. But with such large lands comes certain problems. Some kobolds remain to torment both my workers, livestock, and profits.

I will pay you 95 gold each, with an extra 20 to he who brings the head of their leader to me. His name is Frugis, and he has a crescent shaped scar beneath his right eye. This is the purpose for which I gathered you. Do you accept?

Perception check on Snag, and Thornton [again trying to figure out class, social class, and profession]. Wave at Ammon if Oak can tell that Ammon knows he is looking/eye/perceptioning him

You didn't answered my questions. At least answer how dangerous is it? And what is a Kobolds? I know creatures by sight, not by name.

Oak smiles, being his happy self

Ammon glares at Oak with with almost concealed eyes.

"Keep your eyes to yourself, child, or you'll see something you'll regret spotting.

You've never seen a Kobold? You must've been a sheltered city lad. They look like bastard children of dragonborn. They're small draconic-like creatures that used to be servants of dragons. There are still some who follow them, but not many. There are a lot of them in the area around Winterhaven. They'd be a problem if they could organize themselves."

"I agree, 100 gold and we'll go deal with those kobolds."

Assist in his diplomacy check

Oak grins due to the annoyanced Ammon dispalyed. Leaning back enjoying himself.

to Ammon
"I think you might need to you get ears cleaned. I said, I know creatures by sight not by name. And as for how my life was before this, well you will have to buy me a drink first. I like strawberry wine spiked with dwarven ale."

to Thornton
"Acutally for me, can I be paid 50sp per Kobold I kill, I personally kill, and I will do it. I am more looking for something to do then for the actual reward, as long as it is not dangerous."

"If I wanted to buy you a drink, I would've done so already. And shouldn't you be at home suckling your mother's tit? There's a good chance that the only things close to a monster you've seen is myself and Snag here... No offence to you, sir goblin."

Ammon keeps his composure, the whole comment unfazing him.

Oak Laughs. Causing King to flutter his wings to keep balanced

"Thanks for the laugh. It would be kind of hard to go back to my mother since she is dead and been rotting for the last 5 years. But for the Monsters, I have seen something, not many, but I would never count you as a monster, nor you Snag. Any goblin that can step foot in a tavern is counted as civilized in my books. Hell I even stayed the night in a goblin camp, they were kind enough. I just payed them 30 gp to not do anything to me and they were as friendly as a bartender.

"Clearly, you never met bartenders from places I visited. Sheltered AND talks to much.

Regardless. 100 gold and the kobolds will be dealt with"
