I thought I wasn't getting a siege this year, but then just as spring arrived:

As we've all suspected - the elves really are evil!

The siege was all elves, but they were equipped like goblins (metal armor/weapons, troll fur clothes, etc).  I assume they must be elves that were captured somehow or other and are now part of the goblin civ.  Also, do sieges from goblins still come only in winter, or can it be any season now?

Happened to me also a while back. Got a vile force of darkness composed 100% of elves, including 70% recruits.

The reasoning this can happen is because goblins are baby snatchers. They brain wash the children into being part of the goblin civ, that includes sieges.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I got it in my head they came in the winter.  It's been a year or so since I played fort mode much, but upon thinking I realized that they sieges would frequently occur right when caravans arrive, in any season, so...yeah.  Sorry about that.

Was there ever any connection of goblins to winter?  They used to send sneak attacks sometimes, which I think (although I could be totally wrong) would not be marked as a "siege".  Did these occur during the winter?  Or am I just totally crazy?  That's quite possible...

There was something on the wiki about if goblins send caravans, its in the winter. You might have seen that?

My second "vile force" in my current fort were all Dwarves.  I got spare clothes out of it.

I think my confusion is that in older versions (at least in my experience) the first invasion never came before winter, and there was almost always (if not always) some kind of invasion during the first winter. 

I therefore would always be worried about the first invasion, which came in winter.  Once I'd survived the first one, subsequent ones were mostly a joke, so I think I forgot that they could happen at any time.  At least, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it...
