[Diplomacy: 17+8]

"She did seem rather cold during the briefing... I am honor bound to bring you back." Horace seemed perplexed stroking his beard for a few moments "But I suppose your father would be in dire need of the news that you are well even if you managed to evade us. Hurry along. It would be best if we didn't catch up. Oh, but please do try to speak with your Lord Father some time. He has grown worried." With a brief gesture most of the assembled took a looser stance. Unfortunately Borus was not among them.

"You mean after all this we're just going to let them go!?! We're under oath!"

"How about this. I duel you. If I win, you can go home, your oath fulfilled; you tried, and were defeated soundly. To ask for more would be rude.

If you win, she goes back with you."

"Your oath is to bring me back. If you force me, now, there will be a fight, and I might certainly be hurt or killed. I don't think my father would be very pleased if you did so, either, especially since I promise to return."

"His honor has been challenged. He must accept Milady." Horace seemed greatly annoyed at this development but unwilling to stop it.

"Very well cur. We shall duel in the de Monterfort style. We shall do so in that clearing with whichever armaments best suit you. Choose your second. I choose my Squire Paul."

"Why do you always choose me? I don't want any part of this." The indicated man, apparently named Paul, sighed as he strode forward.

"I'm going to assume you don't know the de Monterfort style of dueling. It goes on until one party is unable to continue. From there their second takes over. When the second is also defeated the duel is over. Death is not preferred but allowed. I should also mention that magic or magical items are disallowed. It's a duel of honor. Steel vs Steel alone. Usually you would be granted a shield and longsword but... I doubt you could use ours and if you are Dereth as you claim to be you will prefer your rapier... Hm... I seem to recall Dereth of the Black Edge being rumored to have a more regal weapon. No matter. Choose your second."

"Where's Ganron? He shall be my second, in the unlikely event I have the misfortune to be disabled.

...And my blade was either damaged or lost during the fall of the Tower; I am unsure which and either way the loss infuriates me, I assure you. Which is why it would be best for us to resolve this quickly, so that we may all go about our own tasks."

”I’m right here… I guess…” Ganron says uneasily stepping from behind Galia.

"Ha! That’s your second? He looks as if he’s never even held a blade. But it is your funeral. No one insults my honor and lives!”

”I swear I can’t go anywhere with you…” Paul mumbles just loud enough for the assembled to hear.

"Oh be quiet. This won’t even take a minute. Look at him! He’s so small.”

So saying Borus leads you to a small clearing not more than one hundred feet from the exit of the city. Luckily it appears roughly rounded as though it were designed for this.

”The duel will last until one combatant surrenders or both primary and second are defeated. Try not to leave the circle. Any use of magic or magical items forfeits the duel. Ready? Go!”

And battle was joined.

"These creeps... He's right, though, Ganron looks inexperienced. But it's already too late to replace him if I know the de Montefort dueling style at all. Should have ate Borus last time we met..."

Raii mutters to himself, and then calls out.

"Dereth! I've tangled with this group before! Borus may be the more experienced of the two, but he's also the more confident; use his pride to bring his fall, quickly."

"Yes, I'm sure that I will be perfectly able to do so now that you've shouted that.

As for you, Sir Borus, I believe it was, I'm not certain why you believe I've insulted your honor. I am perfectly capable of doing so, if you'd like. I'm not certain how much there is to insult, though, as anyone who calls their opponents cur before even bothering to fight them can't be said to have much."

Dereth slowly begins to circle his opponent as he says this, tensing slightly, in anticipation.

Five foot step northeast.

Ready Action to Sudden Leap past him
(tumble rolls as appropriate to avoid AoOs) if/when he charges, should Counter Charge fail(Counter Charge is an immediate Action, and one I will be using if he charges). Upon doing so I will taunt him(I'll write it).

Dereth takes a step North-East and prepares to perform certain action.
Borus prepares a Shield Defense against Dereth.
Borus issues a Fighting Challenge to Dereth.
   Borus begins to charge Dereth.
   Dereth attempts to Counter Charge.
[Dereth vs Borus: 14+4 vs 1+1] Dereth is able to move Borus up to 2 spaces.

Dereth displaces Borus' charge and forces him to move.
Ganron and Paul take no action.
Turn 2 begins
Dereth is affected by Borus being both a Bulwark of Defense and Vigilant Defender!

Blood in The Water Stance
Flashing Sun

5 ft step northeast.(As I'm not moving into difficult terrain, but out of it, I believe I am capable of doing so; if not, Step of the Wind stance instead of Blood in The Water)

((Oh, and if it wasn't already apparent, my Dodge bonus to AC goes to Borus; I think that's included in my bonuses already, though))

"I thought you said this would be over quickly? Something about me being small?"
