"Let's just kill them and get on with it!" one of the men in banded mail intoned as he drew his sword and advanced towards the party.

"Borus, stand down! A knight of the de Monterfort Estate never attacks an unprepared foe. Give them the time they need to prepare. Besides it is rude to attack someone outside the city gates. Besides, there may not be a need for violence if Lady Joanna will come peacefully."

Grumbling Borus sheathed his blade as he walked back to the others. The way he continued to grip the weapon, however, indicated his desire for combat.

"Very well then. If we will fight..."

The swordsman draws his blade, lets his pack slide onto the ground and takes up a ready stance with a grace and speed that made it look almost like a flourish.

"Then let us fight! Know you fight Dereth of the Black Edge this day, and thusly you face your death."

[Nerjin]

"You are talented with that blade it seems. Still, you must work on your introduction. Dereth of the Black Edge died over a year ago when the Foul Tower fell. What is your real name friend?"

"That is where you are wrong. I have been left weakened by the ordeal, so this will serve as an ample test of just how much that fall took out of me."

He grins, a predatory gleam twinkling in one eye.

This seems to give Horace some pause. After a few seconds he replies.

"I am not sure. She grew badly ill one day and was forced to bed rest for several years. One day she escaped for... Some reason beyond my knowledge. Her father misses her greatly and wishes her safe return. After all this time chasing after her I believe he is worried that her sickly state may lead to her being harmed. Obviously the outside air has done her well. Come, Lady Monterfort, I am sure your father will allow you leave once he sees how well the outside world has been to you."

Bill, holding off responding to the Lady, turns to Horace.
"Interesting. Because the Lady told us she was pursued because of a crime. Did a maid go missing from the Montefort estate around the time she disappeared?"

"I do not keep an eye on the serving maids. Where are you going with this?"

"I like to know who I am working with. Knowing if she ran because she was ill or if she is a murderer is very important."

[GiglameshDespair]

"It would be beneficial to your health to not insult Milady's honor." Horace directs at Dereth with a raised eyebrow. "Milady, I understand your worries. But your Father is quite worried about you. Regardless you have a perfect alibi. You were far too sick to harm anyone at the estate. You couldn't even get out of bed. How could you murder a maid in that state?"

[GiglameshDespair]

"It is my mother, Horace. You know she never liked me, and she took the opportunity to be cruel. My lord father is a kind and noble man, but he listens to her over me."

She paused and adopted a thoughtful expression.

"You can see I have decent health, and I have companions with me to protect me from harm. I know my father must be worried, but if you carried the news back, I'm assure it would assuage him. Still, if I returned, I know I would not be permitted to leave again. I will return one day, Horace - but not yet. I wish to enjoy my freedom just a little more."
