I got Published!
« on: September 02, 2014, 02:31:53 pm »

The Gorgon's Mirror is a new e-zine by a small RPG company called Drive-Thru Productions. It's supposed to be general SF/F but we've got a lot of stories dealing with LGBT themes if that's your thing.

My story debuts in Issue #2, and it's called The Boatmen's Apocalypse. It's a stylistic tribute to John Wyndham in general and The Day Of The Triffids in particular, and is possibly the only work of post-apocalyptic fiction to be set in Norfolk.

I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

Fairly easy in this case because it's a very new magazine. As long as your story's some kind of speculative fiction (SF, fantasy, horror or the like), three to five thousand words per installment and written to an adequate standard of English you stand a reasonable chance. Here's their email address.

Got a link to their manuscript guidelines? I couldn't find it on the site. Or do I need to shoot them an e-mail?

I'm not sure if they actually have any manuscript guidelines yet; the only thing I was told was that they preferred submissions in .doc format.

Surely they gave you their pay rate at least? :P That's one of the few things I'm more interested in knowing. I suppose most of the rest of it belongs in the "they'll sort it out when they have more of a readership." I can just follow industry standard manuscript practices for anything I might submit until they put their guidelines together, no harm done there.

Oh, and congrats, by the way! I realized I hadn't said so in my other post.

Oh, right. Well, we get 5% of the cover price per issue sold for the first three months for the first publication, with right to republish in an anthology with " all best efforts made to re-establish contact with the author in order to furnish with additional royalties." It's not a lot, but they're a brand new 'zine and haven't really got established yet.
