The Gloom Steppers operate in large hordes, defending themselves through their sheer speed and numbers, as individual life means nothing to the Horde.

To feed two or more Hordes will work in co-operation and advance down a tunnel from opposite ends, compressing the Shadowy Gloom within to edible densities while also preventing is dissipation. This tactic is also useful in eliminating intruders. The Steppers are intensely territorial and will defend their territory against interlopers with violence first and last. The complexity of the Deep Places being what it is means that even a wary traveler may pass through Stepper Territory without realizing. It is just as likely that they will escape notice as not.

((I can't leave the steppers so terminally stupid for the remainder of their existence, so i'll be designing a companion Sentient race to command them as soon as power become available. Donations towards that race will be reciprocated!
