Statues and Room value
« on: May 08, 2008, 07:01:00 am »

quote:
Also note that the floor under the statue cannot be smoothed or engraved after the statue has been placed.

If it is smoothed or engraved before it is placed, does it still count to the room value?

quote:
Statues and windows are a special case; any wall they block access to does not count towards room value.

What does "Access to" mean?

I think it means like below, where A=accessible wall, X=unaccessible wall, and S=statue

code:

AAAAA   AAAAA   XAAAA
A...A   A...A   AS..A
A...A   AS..A   A...A
A...A   A...A   A...A
AAAAA   AAAAA   AAAAA

but it could mean

code:

AAAAA   AAAAA   XXAAA
A...A   A...A   XS..A
A...A   XS..A   A...A
A...A   A...A   A...A
AAAAA   AAAAA   AAAAA

which is correct?

I'm not sure about question #1, but the answer for question #2 matches your first diagram.  Diagonal movement is taken into account when considering what is accessible within a room.

From what I could tell, the first example is true. Every time I have a statue in a corner, that corner is no longer counted as a part of the room. So theoretically, you could make rooms with statues as walls. You just need a wall to make the door, deconstruct the wall after the door is placed, and make a statue.

Must try!

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

I've used statues as ad-hoc walls before for purposes of defining rooms; works just fine.

I believe you can build a door from a statue, but I'm not entirely sure.
