Toady has changed my life. You?
« on: August 29, 2014, 08:42:23 pm »

Just changing init options after downloading .10. I've been changing these options in one way or another for nearly 6 years now. Dwarf Fortress has changed the way I view the world, sometimes consciously with a humorous bent, sometimes simply as an expansion of general knowledge. But I am coming to realize that with such an investment of time and thought, during such a profound period, there must no doubt be subconscious change. Dwarf Fortress may be one of the single uniting threads I have remaining from six years ago, and even it has changed enough to warp the memory. I think that's pretty cool, and a beautiful thing for Toady's artwork to do.

How about you guys?

Well I agree with you. You expressed it very well! I don't know if it changes life but like a very good music band, Dwarf Fortress stays in your mind, whether it's thinking about your fortresses/other players' forts or the exciting future of the game.
Even though I have (like everyone else i guess) months without playing, i have checked the devlog daily for exactly 4 years now. The main downside of the game is that it's hard to share it with other people IRL, at least my friends don't stick to it. Thankfully that's the best game community i know!

Sometimes I wonder how he takes all the idolization and stuff. He comes off as a pretty modest guy.

No I probably haven't changed your life, sorry about that  :P, on a more serious note though while dwarf fortress has been a part in changing my life it has definitely not been alone in that, I am however very thankful for the part and try to contribute and donate as much as I can.
